First time since I decided to have surgery on both knees, I fell apart yesterday. Everything irriated me. My nerves are shot and I'm sick in my stomach.
I went to see my family doctor and he was concerned about my hemogloblin and wanted me to get a Procrit shot to boost my blood. NOW he said. I have to see my oncologist to do that and I'm getting so tired of the many doctors I have seen and will see.
I think it has been a long wait to get this surgery. My surgeon had won the best surgeon for BLTKR in 2007 and he is so booked. He only does surgeries on Mondays and Thursdays. So I have my surgery scheduled for June 4th.
Well I wanted to share and tell all of you who I have read your posts or you read mine-----God Bless you all. You have helped me like you would not believe! I think of you all the time and what you have said! Thank you.
Jayne

Jayne, I would think something was wrong with you if you hadn't had a meltdown of some kind about the surgery. I had one, and I only had one knee done. I didn't even have to deal with the things you mentioned in your post. As I've said to others about to have the surgery, you're a rock star! You really are. You know, I think one reason we all get emotional about this surgery, aside from the fact that it is frightening to have any kind of surgery, is because we're mourning the loss of parts of our body. However, remember to keep it in perspective. They're going to remove the damaged parts and replace them with something much better.

On June 4th, you'll be ready.

Hi Jayne. I am really glad you have your surgery date. I think we all got scared at one point, Its ok. I know you are tired off all the Dr;s but once this is over it will be one less Dr to see. You really will feel better when this is done. Plus as you said you cant do alot of things. You are entitled to get your life back, you deserve it. Hang in there it will be over before you know it. Keep us posted. Ill keep you in my prayers......Kim

Jayne Surf is right we all get upset. I know all here will say a prayer for you. You will be fine and just think after June 4th you will have the surgery behind you. Please keep in touch will all of us.
Pat

Jayne.....we'll all e here for you! Of course all this pre-op stuff could make each of us meltdown! It IS so overwhelming, after all! But each one of us undertands! Besides......don't er have to name your new knees....Tarzan and???? :y

It's that damned old anticipation while waiting, isn't it. I know in my case, I would rather just get on with it immediately, once having made the decision. But that time watching the clock tick down, and running around in semi-frustration with the nagging feeling there are a million things to do, and the rest of the world refuses to adapt to my timetable...
then suddenly it's time, and then it's just as suddenly on the other side of the experience, and the big difference between that time up until the experience and the time after the experience, is that after the experience....things start improving again.

Before the experience, things are not improving. They are going the other direction. Things are getting worse. Then, in the blink of an eye, things have suddenly bottomed out, turned around, and are now getting better. Pain with a future.

And it's getting better a whole lot faster than it was getting worse.

or something to that effect. Don't mind me. Island ran out of hydrocodone and so the doc here ( not my OS in Texas) put me on oxycodone, with a separate side pill of Tylenol. It's mix yer own pain med time..and I think I have discovered the oxycodones are timed release...or something.

Jayne, your feelings and emotions are SO VERY NORMAL!!! This is major surgery. It's "elective" in that you say when you'll have it done. We're here to help you through anything you experience....including a meltdown. We've all had 'em, hon!! It gets better...HONEST!!

Thank you ALL! Each and eveyone one of you!! I have tears in my eyes reading your comments and I do feel so much better having your support. I love you all!
I will keep you posted.
Jayne

It'll get better...everyone has those meltdowns or "what am I doing" moments or days...clear up in the house what's necessary and then do things only for yourself...that helps.

I like the way you put that advice, orion!

Don't let the anticipation get to you --focus on how much better your life will be 3 months from now. i had my rtkr on monday --the recovery isn't as bad as I expected. Distract yourself.

Hi Jayne. I know your surgery isnt till Thursday, but I didnt know if you would be on before that. We are all here for you....Post when you can let us know how it went...See you on the other side.....You will be very happy you had this done. Please do what the Dr tells you to..............My prayers are with you........

I see last time I posted on this thread I was a week pre-op. And now I am five weeks after. And while you will definitely run through some discomfort, I can tell you that it's a different pain entirely, and it goes away. Yesterday I spent all day in my garage working on the driveshaft and brakes of a Land Rover. At some point I realized, my original knee hurts worse than my new knee! That was kind of a small breakthrough for me. It's not that the old knee hurt more than usual, but that the new one didn't.

Pain with a future.

Hi Jayne,

I remember so well being where you are, it is so unnerving wondering if you are doing the right thing, and maybe even for a couple of weeks after you still may be wondering if you did the right thing, but listen to what everyone says, it just gets better and better and in no time you have no doubts whatsoever.

6 months down the track I wake up every day with excitement wondering what that day will hold that I couldn't do 6 months ago.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your milestones as you recover, and you reclaim your life.

I will be thinking about you tomorrow.

My surgery is three weeks from tomorrow and I am getting more and more nervous every day.
