I just got home from my two week check up. I told the doctor if it were not for the big incision on my butt I would not believe that he sawed, drilled etc. on my hip bone. I went on to tell him that my knee is still so painful. It keeps me from sleeping, etc. I am still on the crutches I came home from hospital with as my knee hurts too bad to walk with out it.

He said I am doing great except for the swelling around my incision. He said if it doesn't go down I have to go back in and he will inject a needle and remove some of the fluid. But he is hopeful it will go down on it's own.

He also said that he still believes that once I have two hips that work well the knee will get better on it's own. He still felt the pain is caused by walking so crooked on my knees because my hips did not move.

So he felt I am doing great and he will see me in 4 weeks when I have the next hip done. He was very impressed at how well I am getting around.

He also said he will continue to give me pain meds (vicodine) for the knee pain and Soma for muscle spasms.

Thanks again to everyone on here for all your sharing of knowledge!

Sandy, it's great to hear you are doing so well. I didn't have fluid around my incision. My left knee (I had RTHR) only bothered me when I was first trying to get up after my surgery. But it didn't hurt all the time. I'm just praying my second replacement goes as well as the first.

Sandy,

I had a large pocket of fluid around my incision for almost 3 weeks after surgery, and it kept dribbling out (a clear yellow fluid) from my drainage site (about 2 inches from the incision). At my 2 week visit with the OS, he said it was quite normal, but put me on 2 more oral antibiotics "just in case". It dried up 4 or 5 days later. Now, I still have some minor swelling at the incision, (it's been the last place of swelling to remain), and the only real pain left, (minor). The only thing that hurts me now at just over 5 weeks out is, sitting upright for extended periods, and trying to climb stairs with my surgical leg 1st.

It will pass... stay positive...
