I went to "knee replacement class" at the hospital where I'm having a TKR
in two weeks. I got most of my questions answered and then thought of two
on my way home.
1. I'm having a spinal/epidural do I need to be as worried about alcohol with
dinner the night before. (If I'm spending the night in Chicago before my surgery
and the instructions say nothing but water after 10pm can I have a nice celebratory
dinner at 6 that evening with a bottle of wine). I've never had a spinal before but
I know for generals they want you to obstain for about a week.
2. Should I get a script for 20 Keflex just to keep in stock so that when I go to
the dentist I don't need to go to the pharmacy with an Rx for 4 pills. According to the
planning doc from the orthopod, I should take preventative antibiotics whenever I have
any work done. Seems like this would be a reasonable way to proceed. How do others
who are farther down the road deal with this?
