I am 50 years old 11 months post-op (right THR)and everything seems to be going great. I am cycling, doing yoga and pilates, and exercising every day. Yesterday I felt a few twinges in my thigh when I was walking--no real pain just a little twinge. I went and did a spin class that day and everything was fine. Are these twinges normal and to be expected?

Hi, At 4 months out, I find that the thigh area is where I feel minor aches every now and again--usually after I do stretch exercises and the like. Because it isn't actually pain and doesn't effect my walking, I pass it off as part of the healing process.

Hi, I am 4.5 months out and over this holiday period I have been doing a bit more exercise and been wearing different shoes (proper walking ones). I have a few twinges in the operated area (a sort of minor, dull ache), but like Laurie above, put it down to the healing process.

I am almost 7 months out, I think, and still have the twinges. Now I just had a knee scope so I guess I shouldn't really be counted in !!

One of the traps people tend to fall into is thinking that just because they've had an operation (that's any operation) every ache and pain they get thereafter is in someway connected with it! It's the same with ailments like cancer. My nephew had a brush with it some years ago and has long since been declared free and clear, yet still every twinge or lump he gets, it's the first thing he thinks of (naturally!).

Now what I am saying here is that it is perfectly normal to have twinges as we all do from time to time. I'm perfectly sure they are nothing to do with your THR but maybe much to do with the exercising you have been doing. If it doesn't go away, either see your doctor or a chiropractor.

Happy New Year!

I am a month out and like to look upon the very occasional twinges as moments of healing. They are so much easier then the before op twinges which I called ZAPS!
