Hi, I haven't been on this site in a while but wanted to post an encouraging word. :thmb:

I just past the 6 week mark post op with my second knee. All is so improved this week. I've been out and driving short trips. My rom is 135 with little pain. I also had foot-ankle problems which responded both times to treatment like a sprained-ankle (mostly not walking much for 6 weeks). I'm done with PT and started back to my twice weekly exercise class. This is my second TKR this year and both knees (and ankles) are doing well. I do a bit more each day. Slow and steady has been my motto. (I learned that from all the nice friends on this website.)

With both knees, I found weeks 3-4 to be the worst times and very depressing. So I wanted to reach out to all those who may be having a bad day ...keep your chin up and remember R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compress, elevate) All gets better.

I have been blessed with a most wonderful recovery both times. Many do have good recoveries! Good cheers to all and thanks for the support!

Hope, how wonderful to hear from you and to know you are doing well. You are doing REALLY well for just 6 weeks!! Hooray for you! Thanks so much for taking time to post such an upbeat message for those who are following you in knee surgery. It means so much for them to hear these success stories and know that wonderful days are just around the corner.

Please write again when you can! We never tire of hearing great news!

I agree after about the 4th week it seemed like it got better...Congratulations to you on both. Thanks for posting. I hope you continue on your road to recovery....

Thanks Hope for living up to your name and giving us hope. I am waiting to have my LTKR done as soon as mhy right gains enough ROM. Keep up the great work.

I just love good news, Hope! And double good news is even better! Keep up the great recup! :)

Hey, Hope! Good to hear from you!

It is so nice sharing good news. Thanks for reaching out to me. Glad I could add a bit of HOPE to others. I am so pleased with my dual knees now. I went to Target with my daughter (age 25) this morning but kept it to a short trip (half the store). There is still a lot of soreness but not the pain. I was so proud of how SOLID my knees were and she was so happy for me. It was a nice moment to share together.

Oh, my husband is doing well also (if you recall, he had survived a sudden cardiac arrest in May). His defibrillator is a-ok and he went back to work full time this week also.

Many blessings here. Thanks all for you kind support.

Hope

(Rose, I'm pulling for your improved ROM after your MAU in July so you can get the other knee done too. ICE,ICE,ICE. Both times I found the secret to ROM was to get my swelling down. As my swelling went down my ROM increased greatly so I'd ice and ice that knee. Also while in the shower, I would sit on my little stool and gently pull my leg back as far as possible. I would do this also when I was sitting on my recliner - try to see how far I could bend my new knee compared with my other one. If I just stetched it, then it didn't hurt too much.)

Hi Hope, thanks for the good news, you are an inspiration to us who have to have our 2nd knee done. Keep up the good work! Ice is our best friend for sure!!

Hi Lou - Once you get past the initial tough few weeks, you'll be glad to have both knees strong and healthy. Knee #2 is a bit easier since we know what to expect but I found it a bit harder to "go slow" this time. I'm glad I did them separate but close together. Just a few more weeks for you then you'll be a new man. Good luck to you.

Hope

Thank you for such a positive post, I am due BTKR on Sept 28th and have found myself thinking am I really in need of it yet?. I know that I am if I am honest but the nerves are creeping in, I keep thinking what if I am worse after the op than now, although I am very limited now. I know its normal to feel how I am, but it is reassuring when I hear such optimism. Thank you. XX

Dawnie - The great odds are that you'll be so glad you did this ...maybe not initially but even in a few weeks you you'll be on the road to a new you. Looks like your going for 2 at once which many others have done successfully. Just plan to take your meds (don't skimp), rest a lot, and ice (lots of it). If you can have a bit of home help the first 2 weeks it is heavenly. For my first knee, my sister-in-law came for 8 days after I got home from the hospital and my husband took 2 weeks off of work for my second knee. Even in my pain, I enjoyed their company and we had lots of laughs together.

Try to relax. Worrying will not change a thing. My best to you.

Thanks Hope for the kind word. Thankful that your husband has recooperated from his heart situation and has been such a blessing to you with his time off.

I do ice several times a day and as I sit here posting, I am stretching my knee. Have noticed more improvement in the last 24 hours as the swelling is coming down. It did swell today after my combo pt and hour aquatic aerobics class, but 2 hours straight was more than I'm used to. The pool feels wonderful on the knee though and is offering the best overall improvement on my ROM.

My best to you in your recovery!

Blessings,

Hi Hope

(that sounds like the lyrics to a song)

Glad to hear things are going well

I too have been lucky without any real problems. I still think the first 10 days or so were the worst but It was only at about 3 months I knew I had done the right thing

Thanks all for posting. At seven weeks today, I notice that I'm able to stand more and more. I was able to stand at mirror and brush my hair without sitting down in my bedroom chair. Then I stood in my driveway and talked to my neighbor for 15 minutes without pain. Hey, it's the little things!

My best to all. Even on bad days, we need to remember that we are getting better all the time.

Hope

Rose, keep up the good work.

It's ALWAYS te little things that we appreciate the most!! :)
