@Klassy yes yes! Yesterday was 2nd night at home and it was much better! I made a bit of a “pillow fort” and that helped so much with the back sleeping. I went to sleep around 11:15 and didn’t wake up at all until 5:20-went to bathroom, got back in bed and went right back to sleep and slept until about 8:30! Also the value of icing often cannot not be over emphasized.

Checking in. 11 days post op LATHR. Yesterday was my 2 year “hipaversay” for RATHR. Doing pretty well. Incision seems to be healing without issues. The initial pain for the first 5-6 days after surgery was less than what I experienced 2 years ago. Icing has a been HUGE I’m controlling that I think. I was able to switch from the opioid pain medication to acetaminophen after day 5 which has helped me begin to think more clearly and regain my appetite. Sleeping still a bit of an issue but not too bad. Now walking with a cane and being conservative with my walking activity. Doing hospital PT assigned exercises twice a day.

Tweb, boy do you sound good.. congrats on your surgery and your good start on the recovery process..

Loved the t-shirt, too.. haha
Isn't the ice a wonderful tool? Plus it's free and a natural pain reliever..

@Tweb you sound like you're doing great! Have to say, definitely love the t-shirt! :rotfl:. Ah yes, the ever illusive sleep. Just remember its all temporary and does get better.

2 week mark today! Hip feels “almost normal “. No significant pain so switched to only ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen/ibuprofen combo. Still
Icing some. Walking a little more…. Feeling very optimistic. Scheduled first PT appointment for 10 days from now. :loveshwr:

Hi @Tweb
I am so glad to see how well you are doing.
I wonder if you would consider sticking with the acetaminophen rather than relying on the NSAID, Ibuprophen.
My surgeon cautioned against the use of NSAIDs as studies and literature released by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons indicates a negative effect of NSAIDs on bone healing.

There has been much debate about this, and certainly members who have used Ibuprofen with no ill effects...but I felt that Tylenol was a better choice.

Post op follow up today. Everything looked good he said. Removed restrictions and gave green light to be more active beginning with low impact choices and pay attention to signals my body gives me. Have been walking without any aids for 2 days.

Hey everyone. Inside a month til my left hip THR. Anyone have any tips and tricks for gadgets etc. this is my 2nd hip so I have the stuff from first one (walker cane toilet riser bath seat sock assist and grabber) but if anyone has any other ideas they would like to share let me know. I remember having some issues getting up from and lying down as well as having trouble getting comfortable enough to sleep.
I know this is late but one thing I find really helpful is a long back scratcher. Since it’s also bug season I get fly bites on my lower legs. Back scratcher is great for scratching the itches!! Just something helpful I found.

Yes I was put on Celebrex to replace tordol. I miss the tordol! Tylenol and Celebrex combination does not help as much as tordol but because of bone healing I had to come off it.

I had a long talk with my OS yesterday at my two week checkup. We discussed the whole NSAID debate about it inhibiting new bone growth. He said about 5 years ago, that was the common theory but it had only been a problem in a few animal studies, not people.

He assured me that the newest research says NSAIDS are fine for healing bones. I am on Mobic and Tylenol.

Yes thank you @Layla have been in PT for the last week. Went today and he says I’m way ahead of most people-more like 4 months post op. Still cautioned me to avoid standing twists and sitting cross legged in the floor and extending operated leg back behind me (like a lunge) for at least 2 more weeks to get me to 6 week mark. I walked 15000 steps yesterday without really trying to. Was just a busy day and before I knew it that’s where I ended up.

@Layla yes I know hard to believe! My PT released me for many activities this past week. Said I can try golf. I’ve done a spinning class that went well and I felt fine afterward. He gave me home PT to continue and said at 12 week mark if I want to try tennis Pickleball and yoga go ahead just pay attention to the signals my body gives me. I’m walking like crazy and trying to enjoy the warm weather. Thank you!
