This Total Reverse is a long time coming & I am SO EXCITED. Not nervous. Excited as a kid the night before Christmas! I have complete confidence in my Anderson Clinic shoulder specialist, Dr Nagda.
Seems hard to believe I’ll be back in my recliner by this time tomorrow. Day surgery-amazing! Driving in & out of Washington DC is as big a concern as any. My husband is a sharp, level-headed driver. I am prepared to praise him to the skies. I need a happy helper!
The house is spotless, laundry clean with fresh sheets & towels standing by, lots of healthy food on hand & Donjoy Iceman at the ready.
I am hoping to get by with lots of ice use rather than pain meds which make me nauseus AND constipated. Not a winning mix! Dr advises stool softener. Not sure how long it takes to work. Afraid if I take it tonight I could be in trouble tomorrow…. Any suggestions?Ondansetron for nausea & generic Norco for pain are standing by, along with baby aspirin for blood thinning. I sure have missed Naproxen this week! I tried to keep its use to a minimum for fear of hepatic damage but it sure is nice when really needed….
I just have a SmartPhone so not sure how much texting I’ll be doing any time soon. Guess I’ll be chatting from the Other Side next time. I just wanted to let everyone know what a great resource and comfort it has been to check in on this invaluable forum.
Best wishes to all on y/our journey to LESS PAIN & FULL RECOVERY!

I love your post! It is likely the most positive, upbeat night before surgery post I've ever read.
I was feeling more like this -> :beg:Wish I had been as relaxed as you seem to be.

Personally, I wouldn't take the stool softener tonight, but that's up to you.

I certainly hope you'll join us once you're post op with more of your cheer. I look forward to following your journey and I wish you all the best! We're happy to read you found the site a great resource and comfort. A big thanks to you!

@Hackney Welcome to BoneSmart! And very best wishes for your surgery tomorrow! I would recommend NOT taking the stool softener tonight. You probably have orders to not eat or drink after a certain time so your digestive system will be fairly empty at the time of surgery. And while anesthesia and pain meds can sometimes cause constipation, in the early day or two after major surgery usually the "no go" issues is more related to getting food into your self first before deciding there really is a problem. Plus you do not want to have a digestive emergency of ridding yourself of any residue immediately after surgery. So save the stool softeners until you do need them -- they do work fairly rapidly.

Ice does work well to help manage pain from shoulder replacement ... but you probably will need some of the heavy duty stuff in the begining
