DW, they sent me home from the hospital with a Game Ready, I kept it for 6 weeks. That thing was my 'almost best friend', couldn't be better than my wife. It was wonderful though.

I found the Game Ready so fabulous I just went online to see about maybe purchasing one. The cost is in the mid 2 thousands! Back to the CryoCuff.

Congratulations big time to you and your team!!!!

Thanks also for the encouragement, I just had a pity meltdown downstairs (on my own, Kevin's in bed) as I watched a commercial for Source Yoghurt. Have you seen it? There is a young lady jumpimg on the top (obviously really on a trampoline) she curls her legs up under her several times and lands effortlessly on her feet with her knees bent. I was green with envy for her knees!!!! Good grief, the things that make me cry nowadays!!

Anyway, goodnight and another good day to you tomorrow. Sue

Nursepair, I know what you mean on the pity meltdown. What is up with this crying thing? Today I had a crown break off, taking my tooth with it. I was so upset, didn't hurt just cried like a baby, had to go to dentist, turns out the previous dentist did a lousy job years ago on my root canal and nowthere is an infection deep in my jaw and the root canal needs redone, etc. etc. I may have to postpone my other knee surgery that I am supposed to have next Friday. I am waiting to hear tomorrow morning from root canal guy and my surgeon who is out of town. What a mess, I was so upset. Then my sister emailed me tonight and said "be thankful and look on the bright side" Her friend's neighbor's son 25 years old went into the hospital for minor surgery, didn't know he had a tooth infection of some kind and 10 days later he died! Thing is I had this during my last surgery according to my dentist and I didn't even know it. So yes, in the long run I know really feel stupid for crying over something that is repairable and as it turns out may have even saved my life! But the tears seem to come so easily.

Kath - I hope you are on antibiotics? If not, get some and quick! Any infection is a hazard when you are a joint replacement patient, especially so close to the op.

Hope you get it sorted soon. As for the crying, think of it this way - you have all this stress building up inside you

- I have to do the physio but it HURTS!
- I have to get my knee to a [insert degree] bend.
- I got to put on a brave face for my family else they'll be getting fed up with me.
- I got to do (this, that, anything, everything).
- I got to get back to work.
- I need to SLEEP!
- I got to take another pill and I DON'T WANT to!
- I hope I don't get dependent on pills.
- I hope I don't fall down and hurt my knee.
- I hope this ends soon so I can get on with my life ....

How many stresses is that so far? You can add to the list. Stress, stress, stress!! It never ends and you do your best to cope with it, to battle on and be a 'brave little soldier' (Shirley Temple!!).

Then - horrors! Something, just one more thing, happens - anything from a silly tv advert that just hits a weak spot to the crown coming off a tooth - and the flood gates open. Just one stressor too many, the straw that broke the camel's back.

But you know what? Once you have released that stress, let all that angst pour out in the tears, you feel better. You're ready to pick up and make an aggressive attack on everything again. Yes, tears are healing, a soothing balm, a poultice on your raw nerves. For sure God knew what He was doing when He gave us tears. But then, He always does, doesn't He!

Oh Kath, what an awful story, it does make our woes seem so small.

I just wanted to say though, are you on anti biotics as I believe you have to have them before dentist work at least for the next two years after any bone surgery, am I correct Josephine?

Good luck, Sue

Sorry Josephine, left after I startd writing to go to the "loo", Just noticed you had replied to Kaths letter.

Thanks for the reminder about stress. I think now I may be able to go back to bed and get a little more sleep, only had about 45 mins in intermittent spurts last night.

Thanks agian for being there for us. Sue

Yep - that's what I said ...

.

Thank you so much, Josephine, Carolyn and Nursepair, I was given Amoxilcylin yesterday, 1 three times a day. This morning my new dentist called (thank God for his care) and told me that after consulting with the root canal specialist they feel that this tooth has to be removed asap along with the piece of root from the other tooth that has been left there for so many years, bone grew over it and there is infection there as well. I never knew a thing. No signs whatsoever, no pain, no redness, swelling, nothing!
I can't believe I went into my last surgery in Jan. with this and did not have any problem with my knee. Anyway I am to take 4 Amox...one hour before I go at 2pm today.
My surgeon is going to call back this afternoon and will let me know if he wants to postpone my surgery that is to take place next Friday, 3/14.
Josephine, you really helped me. I hate to admit that I have that much stress. I do try to put on the good face for my family, my co-workers, but I just fell apart over this one.
My sister wrote to me (she lives in Costa Rica) anyway and told me of a story of a 25 year old man who needed minor heart surgery and had a tooth infection that he wasn't aware of, 10 days later he died. I also had a friend whose daughter died under similar circumstances. I should be thanking God that they found it, tooth or no tooth. So I feel pretty shelfish being so upset when I should be grateful.
Thanks so much for all of your support and understanding.
I will be here later tonight with my updates. Who knows maybe this will help someone else that has to deal with it. Look at our poor girl that had to deal with a broken arm!
Now that was something to cry about. She made it, so can I.
Thanks again and again, Josephine I don't know what made you come up with this idea, but Thank God you did, this forum is so wonderful.

Beachcomber,
Congrats on the competition. I actually judge competitions at a local vo tech and I know how exciting they are not only for the students but the teachers involved.
Now that I work in college food service we are self opt and we belong to NACUFS and we have our chef's participate in cooking competitions as well.
It is so much fun, but a lot of work it is really gratifying to see your team that you led succeed.
Now onto getting ready for the next one!

thanks Kath,
Yes, my students are so proud and already planning for next year.

I feel a few "twinges" of regret (trying to stay out of the guilt arena) about being gone the two months before their competition and wonder if we could have placed even higher if I had been there those weeks before. The category we lost major points for(costing) is one that I teach in class and we work through together. Hard for a sub to do....

Gotta go and get ready for work.... Keep taking those antibiotics and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I will check in for news from you once you talk to your OS.

Carolyn

Glad you like the forum, Kath, but it's not mine - I just 'work' here! You can thank FARM for the site. This charity was started by one Richard M. Warner who had a hip replacement and decided to help fund research into the development of joint replacements. They then piggy backed this forum onto the FARM website. So if any of you feel like thanking the sponsors, perhaps you might consider donating towards the cost of running the forum. There's a link in my signature.

As for me, I happened along by chance last June and offered to stay and provide 'professional' advice and support to the members here and I am enjoying every minute of it!

Carolyn,
No quilt feelings, you did your best. You have to take care of yourself or you won't be able to get around for future competitions. I am sure they all understand. Just think how good you will feel next time.
As for me, got a call and surgeon feels as long as everything heals properly no other concerns we can go ahead next week. He is going to give me an additional big dose of antibiotics in the hospital prior to surgery.
So it looks like things will be okay after all. Thanks so much for thinking of me.
All this support got me through a really hard day yesterday.
