I have a question. When I first had my surgery I was told that I would not activate security alarms in stores with it. The only place I was doing this was the local Wal Mart and it would just beep for a second and quit going in and out. I went on vacation in Williamsburg Va and at the Premier Mall stores the alarms made a little beep as I walked by each door (this is not a closed in mall. When I went in Coach off went the alarms. A young couple was coming out and they froze in their tracks.:shk:

Now I am putting off the alarms just about every retail store I go into. This is getting to be embarrassing. I am constantly saying sorry, I have a knee replacement and that must be triggering the alarm. I have lived here for years so folks here just laugh but I am just waiting for the time that police show up and search me on one of my out of town trips.

Anybody having this problem???:pnc:

Oh my, Nana....what a horrible thing THAT would be!!! I have never heard of anyone with a joint replacement that set off store alarms. I doubt if they could or would adjust the alarms, so I guess you'll just have to develop a sense of humor about it all! Or stop shopping....NOT!!!

:wow: I shop at WalMart all the time and I haven't set any alarms off yet. I didn't think that would happen. I know it will at airports but at retail stores...Wow. Like Jamie said develope a sense of humor and blame it on the guy that walked out in front of you:hehe:.

I've been in and out of our local Wal-Mart several times and to the mall a couple times since surgery. Nothing like that has ever happened to me!

At our Wal-Mart, they barely react when the alarm goes off for a real reason, so if it does start happening, I can just keep on walking, they'd never stop me. :hehe:

My husband said that you should steal a bunch of stuff and then blame the alarm on the joint replacement. I asked him: "Steal what stuff? A cane? Reusable ice packs from the pharmacy? Pillows to elevate our legs?"

That's right, the new crime spree- comfort items being stolen all over the world by slightly limpy people with matching scars!

:lvros:

Hello Nana How are you . I went to the mall the other day with my kids and its was funny. I told them your story from vacation and they would run in the store before me so if it went off they would act like they didnt know me....lol...They were laughing though, well as they were running away from me.lol..........But haven't set any off yet, thats puzzling......good to know you know everyone around..........I dont want to see you on Americas most wanted.....hehe............xo...Miss your posts glad your back.)

Well, nor have I. Any idea which knee your surgeon used? Which manufacturer?

It is not likely to be your prosthesis. One of the first places to check is a new wallet or purse. They often have the alarm things tucked in odd places. I would go through my purse and look through all the contents.

Hey Linda 2,
I have the same purse and wallet that I carried before my surgery. Can you believe I am not a female who changes purses all the time? I do have a shopping passion for shoes.

I thought initially that it could be my blackberry but I left it in the car and it still happened. I am very puzzled. I can't swear to the type of prothesis without reviewing my records but I know the one the OS used has been around a long time.

Guess I will go over to our city police station and get the facts on record so if I get arrested while traveling I can beg them to call the station to confirm. lol

Frog Feathers.. the crime thing would have been tempting to try while I was drooling over a 400 dollar coach purse at the outlet mall. Another reason I don't have a lot of purses, I like the expensive ones and they cost more than I have money to put in them!

If anyone has any other suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

If it does it again. Have your daughter pass by the same store carry your purse and you stay a way. If it is the purse then it will go off.

Next time......hold your purse in front of the alarm thing to see if its YOU or your purse!!! Start out with process of elimination!!! Go out and buy some new purses, process of elimination should at least be FUN if not co$tly!!! ((:0)

No alarms for me either. I am BTKR as well.........
Just at the airport!

Unless they really stepped up the sensitivity of your Walmart, Nana!!! :wahey:
:shk:

Hey another trip to Walmart and I didn't set alarms off today. I just don't get it. Had my same purse but felt myself tense up going in and coming out!:shk:

None of that makes sense. I went to tons of stores today and I still didn't set any alarms off. What makes me think it's not your knee is that at retail stores the alarms go off because of security problems on the tags not metal like airports.
