Hi All! Very new here - I didn't know a group like this existed, I'm at my wits end and looking for any advice, help, whatever!
I will try and be brief with the history of my L knee, leading me to where I am...

Back up to Aug 2014, after multiple scopes and an HTO, my trusted surgeon suggested a Hemi - Partial knee replacement. It was same day, in at 10 out at 2, started PT 2 days later, continued to have horrible pain, (worse than pre-surgery) I went in repeatedly and was told nothings wrong. Finally got a second opinion Dec 2, 2014. New Dr said tibia was fractured(on MRI results I brought with me), so let the fracture heal, the cement was no good - now being referred for TKR revision..... Which was performed by an amazing surgeon in July of 2015. He said there was terrible damage, possibly wrong size hardware, but 6 weeks out, I felt amazing and so thankful. Fast forward to 2017 and I am in pain, every single step pain, and it has only gotten worse. Xrays show hardware looks good, met with a TKR specialist here(we moved 6 hours from previous surgeon) and he tells me with the amount of damage done by first surgeon, I either A have to live with it, B do another revision(only 50/50 chance of making it better/worse). Not sure I like those odds given the history! Fast forward to mid 2020 and up til today - Every single step hurts, I wake up at night multiple times with pain, stairs are a killer! And i am up and down them multiple times a day for my job as daycare provider! My hip has now started hurting, I'm guessing because of my gait.
It is affecting all aspects of my life and is exhausting! Wondering if anyone out there has experienced similar, or if someone has suggestions I haven't tried?!? I am terrified to do another revision with a 50/50 chance of making it WORSE!!
Thanks for listening - hoping to see replies, in meantime, I will continue reading other threads!

Welcome to BoneSmart, glad you joined us! :welome:

You have been through a lot with your knee, with the worsening symptoms you are having, it is probably time for you to go back to the surgeon you saw in 2017.
Also recommend you seek a surgeon specializing in revisions or complex joint reconstruction, they have the experience and training to determine what is happening with troubled knees.

You will want some one who has no relationship with any of your previous surgeons, not even golf buddies. They will be able to give you better than a 50/50 chance of success.
You can start your search using our find a surgeon locator at the top of the page in the blue banner.

In the meantime, Ice and Elevate whenever you have the opportunity.

I know it is 6 hours away but I would send all the info to the OS who did your revision. See if he could give an opinion on it. There are a lot of specialists out there who could probably give you better than 50/50.

Sounds like we have similar situations. I have to decide if I need to redo my TKR which was needed because of a partial that failed. This one is now failing. It’s been 1-1/2 and I’m pretty sure I tore my meniscus on my opposite knee and my hip is killing me. I had X-rays today along with knee aspiration to check for infection.
You know your body. I kept telling the doctors something was wrong but they wouldn’t listen.
I hope you get some relief soon!!!!

Omg! It does sound like we are similar situations! Which right there makes me feel better lol! Ive had the aspiration too, took off a ton of fluid! No infection. It felt so much better getting that fluid off, but they do not like to do that often, risk of infection.
I am going to call my revision surgeon, and see what he says, because yes, 50/50 is not what I want to hear!
Thanks

Hello knees are fun even more so if there is a problem or recovering from surgery. Not saying I agree with 50/50 comment but I have been told everytime the knee gets operated on there is more of a chance of infection, failure, etc. now that is what I have been told. Having had 20 surgeries on Lknee there is some truth to that at least for me. I do agree being told 50/50 I would seek other opinions.

I agree with Pumpkln's recommendation to see a surgeon who specialises in doing revisions and treating problem knees.
These surgeons see problem knees every working day and they can often spot a problem and a solution that has eluded other surgeons.

What's more, because they are used to doing revisions, they are much more likely to give you a better than 50/50 chance of getting an improved result. What seems like a big deal to a surgeon not accustomed to doing revisions can be just routine to a surgeon who's done many revisions.
