Pickleball has gotten easier for me, so today I got on the tennis court for the first time in a year and 8 months! My husband and I just hit cross court. Overall, I felt pretty good and encouraged. The knee doesn’t hurt, but is somewhat tight. I’m mentally guarding it so I’m not moving well off to the left side. I was pleased. It’s a good start!!
I’m glad I discovered this site, but I’m happy it wasn’t until after I had my surgery. Prior to my surgery, I was only reading all the many positive testimonies of the Conformis knee replacement on their website which is why I decided to go that route. Overall, at five months, I have been very happy with my knee replacement.
I might have been hesitant to have my TKR surgery had I come here first because not everyone here has had great TKR experiences. However, this group provides honest and truthful healing experiences, some of which can be kind of scary to read, but there is so much helpful information shared here.
I agree that many doctors and PTs are out of touch and have unrealistic expectations of our healing which is why the surgeon and PT (if any) you choose is so very important.
I will say the vast experience of this group has taught me that my knee simply needs time to completely heal and painful PT and early manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) wasn’t going to help me with my range of motion. Only time is going to do that.
I have been amazed at how often doctors want to do MUAs! It seems that many times when doctors perform MUAs, the patient only gets a temporary gain, more swelling and goes right back to where they were before the MUA.
Healing of a TKR truly is a marathon, not a sprint.
