MUA TKR by robot

Is there anything you can take for pain relief that is more effective? It is very difficult to heal when the knee is in agony. Adequate rest, nutrition, hydration and pain control is the key to recovery.
Due to stomach issues I was advised to just take paracetamol by my dr. However I’m finding nights difficult just on this

@Cocopug It can take several days for the medication to build up enough in your body to have the desired effect. I was surprised by how much it helped after I'd been taking it consistently for a week.

I know it's hard to be patient when you are in pain, but try to hang in there! :console2:

Thank you, I’m just finding the last few days hard.

Thank you for your kind words. It’s never plain sailing
Just when we think everything is going nice an smooth, we seem to get that curveball.... Last couple weeks have been a crazy ordeal for you. Your body is telling you what to do.... problem is that we are not good at listening it would seem. Take it easy and rest. Sending thoughts of healing and comfort to you.

Thank you, I realise that I’m not helping my recovery by over doing things. I think it is because I want to get back to work as soon as possible. What I’m actually doing is jeopardising a speedy return by not listening to my body.

We have found that for the vast majority of members, less is more. When you do too much, you have to recover from the over-done activity before you can get back to your normal after-surgery healing. To me, that's a setback. Try to cut back for a month or more and you should see an increase in your healing. You want to keep your inflammation down. Overdoing increases that inflammation slowing down your recovery.

4 weeks yesterday since the TKR and tbh I don’t feel great about it. My first TKR on the right leg from 2 years ago was feeling fantastic and now because I’m relying on it more because of the new left knee it’s starting to hurt. I assume this is soft tissue but I’m not an expert.
I’m off to PT at 14.00 today and dreading it!
I had to have MUA for the right knee as it wouldn’t straighten. I was given a brace to sleep in this time to help my leg stay straight. I’m not convinced with this either.
I ice multiple times a day to ease the pain and swelling and take paracetamol every 4 hours. I seem to be struggling to be more positive. I think it was euphoria I felt for the first week and now I’m very down in the dumps about the whole thing. I don’t remember feeling like this with the first knee. Sorry to be so negative because this isn’t my usual mindset

It is easy to get down during the L>>>>>O>>>>>N>>>>>G recovery. Our doctors don't prepare us for the slowness of getting our normal life back, but we here know all about it. You are only 1/12 of the healing of your new knee meaning it is still an infant and needs to be treated as such. You can NOT speed up your recovery but you CAN slow it down by doing too much too soon. You will find that doing your ADL only, (activities of daily living) will give you a less painful recovery and usually a quicker one than those who do too much at an early stage of healing. Look at this: ADL

I found and read through your recovery thread from your first TKR and you were feeling about the same then, which is par for the course after this surgery.

Painful PT is not going to help your recover. Don’t do things that cause pain at the time, or within 24 hours after. That kind of PT is not necessary for a good recovery.

My first TKR on the right leg from 2 years ago was feeling fantastic
Remember, in time, both knees will feel fantastic again, it just takes a lot more time than we realize.

Seriously, if you dread PT... Just cancel it. Focus on function, not numbers; on ADLs rather than arbitrary one size fits all (none?) exercises.

It has to be a bummer when you feel your first recovery was, quicker / easier/ better than the one you feel you're slogging through currently. This is the reason we so often remind members that no two recoveries are alike, even with the same person. You'll get there, all temporary, dear Cocopug, brighter days are on the way. Hang in there!

Happy One Month Anniversary!
May this weekend be a good one for you, Cocopug
Wondering if you went to PT on Wednesday and if so, how did it go for you?
Best Wishes as you continue healing!
@Cocopug

I went on Thursday and she seems to think my knee is doing ok. My thigh muscle felt like concrete so she massaged it and loosened somewhat. I can bend my leg to 90 which she seemed ok with. I will go again next week. Thank you for asking

You’re welcome! Please don’t ever feel you need to apologize for feeling less than enthusiastic about your recovery. We’re here to support one another and each journey is different, even if we experience multiple joint replacements.
Take it slow and easy and don’t let anyone force you to do anything that causes you anxiety, or force anything that is causing you pain. Easy does it and you’ll get there. Have confidence in that. You can do this!

I do appreciate your messages and I do try to be patient and sensible most of the time.
The fact that people take the time to message me means a lot ❤️

That's great! Most surgeons are happy if their patients to get to 90 degrees by six weeks -- so you are ahead of schedule!

Quick question,
My left knee was replaced on the 23rd August 2023 using the Maki ( I think that’s the name) robot. A part of the equipment was attached to my shin bone and to be honest my whole lower leg is really tender to the touch and my ankle is sore and my foot is very pins and needles. Anyone else had these symptoms?
