THR TiredOfLimping's Left THR Recovery

I loved Mad Men. Watched that and Breaking Bad last time around.

Have just binged watched both series of the White Lotus. Immediately googled the gorgeous 4 Seasons hotel in Sicily that features in Series 2, but way out of my budget sadly.

Hi! I am a 3 week tomorrow newbie! I also have glue on my skin not near the incision. If you figure out how to remove it please share your findings. I tried alcohol pads with no luck. You have the state fair to look forward to!
Hi @Hippie Chick! I did get most of the glue off, but probably not the preferred way. I scrapped it off with my fingernail. Even 6 weeks postop, the glue was very difficult to remove! I have a little piece that is closer to the incision that I am not comfortable scrapping with my fingernail so I am leaving it for now. Please let me know if you find a better solution!

That is wonderful news that you are no longer limping, I am so pleased for you. I hated my limp and how it made me feel about myself, it was like I suddenly became this old person over night. I guess it's too early for me to know if I'm still limping (I'm 3 weeks post op) and as I'm still not walking crutch free it's hard for me to tell at the moment but I'm seeing a physio tomorrow so maybe they might be able to give me an idea of how my gait is. Finger's crossed it's improved !

Keep up the good work, you are doing so well !
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes 3 weeks is still very early but you will get there! I wish you the best!

I had posterior approach- I can see glue near top side of thigh so I know I probably have more. At this stage of recovery I cannot twist around or what else would be required to see it. I had thought about nail polish remover. Has anyone used it successfully?

Nail polish remover is not the answer. You can buy liquid adhesive remover from a drug store. The brand I have is Solvo-plast (pic attached..had it in medicine cupboard for years) It works like a charm and you can easily and gently remove excess glue outside of the wound area. My surgeon used Dermabond Prineo to close my wound (some kind of super strength glue and mesh system - no stitches or staples). The glue outside of the wound would not come off with nailpolish but the adhesive remover worked.

Please just leave it alone -- and don't use any of these "glue" removers that close to your incision. That's just asking for trouble!

The remaining glue WILL peel off on its own without doing damage to your incision or your skin. Just give it time.

To be honest I had the same issue with glue but I thought to myself who cares. eventually just doing your daily nornal hygiene routine will suffice. If the only complication you get from THR is some extra glue residue. You should consider yourself lucky. THR is no joke however extra glue seems pretty miniscule . Take care.

Yes, I totally agree to not use any glue removers close to incision! I had a large patch (1" x 5") of strong glue on side of my thigh and a good distance from my incision (I had anterior approach). After a month it had not wore off at all and it was so strong it puckered my skin. I used a Q tip to be extra careful.

You do you people. Always remember our suggestions are not medical advise

Agreed- it’s nice knowing that you are not the only one with glue residue. The shared experiences are what makes this forum so great!

Hi @Mojo333!

My recovery on this 2nd hip has gone really well once I got past the first 3 weeks, which were brutal!! I gradually increased my walking in weeks 4-8 until I could consistently walk 5 miles a day. Then last week, at my 9 week pst op, I went to the State Fair and spent the entire day on the 277 acre grounds! I got over 17k steps that day with no pain and it was marvelous!

Leaving the fair grounds at closing time and trying to get on the train with everyone else doing the same, was a scary situation though, and I realized then we should have skipped the firework show and left earlier!

My right hip is now 7 1/2 months old and is very weak compared to my 10 week old left hip. My left is my dominate and I had it replaced before it got so terrible. I limped with pain on the right hip for 3 years before the surgery. So I do need to build up some muscle in my right but so far I am only walking in order to give my left time to heal. But I think I am ready to start some exercises with my right hip now.

That's amazing for less than 3 months post-op. Sounds like you are doing great!

Happy Three Month Anniversary, TiredOfLimping!
Good to know you're doing so well. May it get only get better. :)
Enjoy the rest of the week!

Thank you @Layla!

My hips are doing great! Right hip is 8 months and left is 3 months post op. I cleaned my entire house yesterday! In 1 day! That is the 1st time I have been able to do that, clean all on the same day, since 2020. Lower back was a little stiff this morning when I woke but stretched that feeding my dogs and no other pain.

Still just walking. And enjoying it so much!
