It has been 12 weeks since my last surgery, and I am thoroughly enjoying my new lease on life.
At my last visit to my OS, he was so pleased with my recupe that instead of having me return in a month's time, he didn't want to see me again for 3 (December).
At one time I had written on OldMarine's thread about a "Turn the Corner" moment, that I was looking forward to the day I could climb through a fence, climb on our 4-wheeler, and most important, get back into my truck and deliver my loads. I have now accomplished all.
I was a little apprehensive with the truck driving, as it takes a lot of pressure to work the clutch and brake pedals, and to keep the accelerator pushed down. Thought my legs would get sore or tired, but no problems whatsoever. Of course, I had to get up in the cab first, which takes serious knee bending to make the climb. But the daily 6 minutes of squats helped tremedously. Also, when climbing in and out of the cab, I make sure I have good hand holds so I don't slip and jar my new bionics.
I am so grateful for this site, as I learned many things which helped me tremendously with my recupes, and I hope others were able to learn from my experiences. I have never regretted having my surgeries as they have given me my life back. I can honestly say I have not felt this good for the past 15 years. I now stand straight instead of stooped, don't walk with a limp, and if I can't sleep, it is not because of continuous pain. I find it much easier to smile, and to be more tolerant instead of grouchy. Pain really does rob from, and inhibit, life.
And I must send a huge "Thank You" to Jamie and Mother Hen, Jo. Your sage advice and understanding made my recupe much easier, along with your open welcome to all of us as we join your forums.
I won't be checking in as often, although I shall be from time to time, as it is now time for me to move on with my newfound life and back to work, if it quits raining long enough (5 days without rain this month!!!).
Best Wishes to all, and may you get to enjoy the freedom from the prior misery we have endured.
