Well it’s been 6 mouths sense my last Total Hip Replacement and it is time for my next and last one.
I have been getting ready once again for my surgery that will be on February 7 first thing in the morning. I have to be there at 5:00 PM and the surgery is at 7.
I have already given my 2 units of blood for my surgery, the last time they only used 1 unit and they gave that to me the morning I was going home.

My first THR is doing great. It’s like the hip is on ball bearings and feels better than I can ever remembering it feeling….
I have a ceramic ball and the socket is made of a cross lock palamar material. The way they did my surgery is called a press fit, they press every thing in and let the bone grow around the prosthetic to hold it in and this will last longer than the cement type. The down fall of this way is that you can not bear any weight on you leg for 6 weeks while the bones heal and hold the every thing together.
My hips did not grow correctly when I was a child so they had to move the placement of my socket, now I will walk and even run better than I have ever done in my entire life. That will help when I need to run down my new 8 month old baby boy..LOL

I will try and let you know how every thing went and how my recovery is going when I get home from the hospital.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will get back to you or Josephine will answer them, she has been a great help for me and will be for you too. “ Thanks Josephine”
God willing I will write more after my surgery.

Aawww - bless you for that,Cptn.Jeff. Your words are much appreciated.

I wish you well in your next adventure and pray it will be as problem free as the first.

My second surgery went well and I was in the hospital for 4 days.
I have been home now for 1 week and I’m doing fine, this hip replacement seems to hurt just a little more than the last one.
I have 12 exercises I do twice a day and that makes my hip hurt quite a bit.
I can get in and out of our car a little better now so I get out of the house a few times a week and head down to my favorite coffee house and just sit for awhile and enjoy the paper and coffee.
My post-op appointment with my doctor is on the 27 of this month so I’ll see how things are going then.
All and all I’m doing fine.
I can’t wait to get rid of these crutches.

Sounds like the type my OS wants to use, do you by chance know which company made yours.

My surgery is comming up quickly, it is great to hear good reports.

Thanks

Hi Swright,
The parts they used in me are made by Stacker, I'm going in for my first post op visit tomorrow to see if every thing is still where my doctor had left it.
Good Luck with your surgery and do what your doctor tells you.
Jeff

Stacker? Or Stryker? Not heard of the first one ...

.

Yep, Stryker cross-linked poly and ceramic head is the type my OS uses.

Funny, I was waiting for my pre-op appt and sitting next to me was a woman about my age who had hip replacement by my surgeon using the minimally invasive 2 incision and Stryker parts. It was 4 weeks and she was walking with a cane and driving...it was her left leg so maybe if it was her right she would have had to wait longer to drive.

She is going in on the 10th of this month to have her other hip done.

It was nice to see a happy, walking customer!!

Stryker, Yes thats the one! Sorry about that.
I started driving at two weeks with my right one, I kind of had to drive my wife to the hospital to have our baby boy. I have been driving for a week now, so thats 3 weeks from the date of my surgery.
I'm feeling so much better. I sleep all night in bed, I am walking with one crutch now and the pain level is about a 2-3 all the time.
I'm a little sore this AM, for I went to a hockey game last night and had to walk a long way to my seats.
Funny thing about driving is that the muscle in my right leg hurts when I'm in stop and go traffic, The doctor said that will do that for at least a year while the muscle is getting used to it new location.
Good LUCK with your surgery on Monday and you will be in my prayers.
Jeff

Cptn. Jeff,

Just wondering what type of incision you had?

My OS uses the 2 incision minimally invasive. He's performed about 300 of these now.

I met a woman who had a LTHR a month ago and was having her RTHR in two weeks, she looked great and was looking forward to the 2nd replacement. I pray my surgery goes as well as hers did. She was an inspiration!!

Every surgery is different, When I went for my first RTHR I told Dr. Cookson not to worrie about the size of my incision, Just make sure your happy with the out come of the surgery....
I am 6' 2" tall and 295 lbs. so my incision is different the a person the is 145 lbs.
I would not worrie about the size of your incision but the stability of the joint.

OK I'll answer your question.
Both my incisions are about 12" long....
You will be in my prayers.
Let me know when your home.
Jeff
