Anterior approach. Anxious even though I’ve had many back surgeries. I have nerve damage in same leg. Concerned about sleeping after too. Ugh. Nephew and brother are staying with me off and on for 1-2 weeks. Been waiting for a few years then last steroid shot didn’t work and had to wait 3 months! Trying to do exercises pre surgery. Painful but need to do them two weeks out i hope it still helps.

@Messiman Welcome to BoneSmart! Of course you are nervous. No one likes facing surgery! But I can confirm that from my experience recovery from THR is much easier than from any spinal procedure. And if you have help in the early days that's great!

Please don't push to do any exercise right now. That hip is gone and any activity is going to make it complain. It's good to have upper body strength post-op but not essential.

Which hip are you having replaced? We will put the information in your signature for you.

Boy, I remember the feeling.
Double trouble here... Bilateral THR at the ripe old age of 53 1/2:oyvey:

I'm not sure I even realized how bad my hips were after soldiering on working a vigorous job with mostly lower back issues and a long process for diagnosis.

Six years out now, and ever so grateful!

I have been through two anterior THR in 7 months (first age 53, second age 54). Don’t get too worried! The first 10 days are a suck fest, but it gets a lot better after that. And one of the BoneSmart staff shared the mantra “all temporary” with me, which really kept me going. I am two months out from #2 and getting ready to head out for my morning hike. Good luck!
