Some of you may remember that before my left knee revision surgery last November I was also experiencing pain in my right knee. (I think the thread was 'Am I being paranoid') The general opinion was that I should mention it to my surgeon which I did and I had x-rays taken of the right knee. Whilst I was at my post-op follow up appointment yesterday he showed me the x-rays of my new left knee and I asked him about the right knee x-rays too as I'm still getting pain in the joint. He looked at these long and hard and decided that there might be a problem with the plastic 'spacer' having worn thin or cracked, but from these x-rays it wasn't conclusive. The upshot is that I have to go back in two months for more x-rays of both knees (I think I'll start glowing soon!) with the possibilty of more surgery being needed on the right knee. Not again!! The good news is that the left knee is looking good. His parting comment to me was 'I don't thinks those partial replacements suited you'. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! Linda x

Oh no! That's all you needed!

Reminds me of the comment by an eminent hip surgeon as a HUGE pile of xrays
was dumped on his desk. He dryly asked his students "Without looking at the films, can anyone tell me what this patient is suffering from?"
Many shaken heads and puzzled looks. Answer "Radioactivity!"

Copper....you certainly have had some challenges in your journey! Hang in there and concentrate on the good things....like the GOOD knee!!! If you need to have additional surgery, we'll be here for you. Please let us know how things go.

I've just remembered something I meant to ask you all. The place on my scar which caused all the leaking problems still hasn't healed properly. My surgeon said he wasn't worried about it as sometimes, if one of the dissolvable stitches inside becomes infected, it tries to evacuate through the wound in small pieces and he thinks this is what's happening. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this? Linda x
Sorry if this is going off thread Jo! Perhaps thread isn't the best word to use in the circumstances!!

Not at all! My warning was about people who started chit chatting in someone else's thread. a) you can do what you like in your own thread (pretty much!) and b) it's still a 'medical' problem.

As for your stitch abscess, it's not an uncommon occurrance so don't worry about it. Often these little abscesses get a kind of capsule or fibrous envelope around them so they are unlikely to migrate inwards. Ain't nature a wonderful thing!

Thanks Jo. I knew you'd know the answer, oh fount of all knowledge! Linda x

Careful! I'm already unable to wear a hat because I can't find one big enough!

I had arthoscopic surgery in the late 1980's, and I had a red bump that itched me like crazy. One day, 3 months after my surgery I was sitting at a black jack table in Vegas and I kind of pushed on the red spot.....Out flew a 1" stitch! It scarred the heck out of me, but the itch went away!

Guess where I've been for over 5 hours this afternoon? A & E! When I was at physio last week I noticed that when I did my 'dips' my left knee was much more painful than usual and I was very wobbly. By last Saturday it was very stiff and even more painful. I put this down to being back at work so being on it more, driving more etc so I got the ice out and hoped it would settle down. But this week it has continued to swell and stiffen up, and has been hurting like crazy again. I tried to get an appointment with my GP but he was away this week and fully booked for next week. Eventually in desperation, I went to see the Practice Nurse this afternoon. She immediately arranged for me to see a doctor who immediately arranged for me to go to hospital. I saw one of my consultant's SHos whom I've seen each time I've been hospitalised so he knew my history. He arranged for an xray which came back looking ok and blood tests which didn't. There's some infection somewhere and to start with he wanted me to stay in hospital there and then, not for any treatment but to be observed. To cut a very long story short, after more consultations it was finally decided that I could come home but must see my surgeon at his clinic on Wednesday or Thursday with a view to staying in after that when he will probably do one of three things - nothing but observe the knee for a day or two to see if anything further develops, an ultrasound, or an aspiration. If over the weekend, though, it gets worse or I develop any sort of fever or the shivers I have to go straight back. So I'm signed off work again and to say the least, fed up! Just to add to my joy, Paul went off to a conference in Holland yesterday and isn't back until Tuesday night - so I've only you wonderful people to let off steam to! The good thing is I know you wont mind. Linda x

We mind, Linda! We mind that you've had this setback! Seems like some prayers are in order. God bless you, you must be feeling really down about this. Come back and post often - we're all here to lift you up!

Sorry to hear Linda, but we are here for you.

Take care and every good wish is being sent your way.

Chris :)

Happy Valentine's Day! So far today I've spoken to my husband in Holland and my daughter in Italy, and have had a visit from my son so now it's time to check in with my other 'family'. Thank you for your messages of support. The knee seems to be slightly less swollen today, perhaps because I haven't been on it as much, but I know I've still got to keep it exercised. It's still stiff and painful and the wound is very red and hot so I'm icing regularly. I feel a bit as if I'm sitting on a time bomb that might go off at any minute and I'm having to stop myself rushing for the thermometer each time I have a hot flush! The next job is to contact my boss which I've been putting off for as long as possible but I fear the time has come. Linda x

Happy Valentine's Day Linda x!!
I am glad to hear that you have talked to you Hubby and family. And that you think that your knee looks less swollen today. I do not like it that you are alone. I know what it is like to be a lone with worries on your mind. Not fun at all
^i^

I'm also glad you got to contact your family. I hope the knee is less swollen. Hang in there and Happy Valentine's Day to you.
Judy

Linda,,,,You're not alone,,,,you have us! Happy Valentines Day!

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, Linda. Hang in there and please keep us updated, OK? When does hubby get home?

Weezy

Paul's home on Tuesday evening so will be back before I go to clinic. My son's on stand-by for if I have to go to hospital before then but so far, so good. A couple of friends are coming over this afternoon so I'm being well looked after and doing ok. Linda x
