[Bonesmart.org] The' me' I will need back

Hi
Only 5 days left until my bilateral. Need to focus on the me I will need to get back to
If only the x-rays didn't dictate I needed to do the replacements, I certainly can function with the pain I have. ABSOLUTELY NONE WHEN SLEEPING OR SITTING. No pain medications
Just walk funny because of the leg deforamties (bow) and with some discomfort No pain riding
I have talked to a few riders that has given me hope and the courage to proceed hopefully

Appy,
You will be so very happy you have it done! Just remember to rest, ice, elevate, take your medication regularly exercise evenly and pace yourself during your recovery. You will recover fine. I am back to life as it used to be. I went and got my H1N1 shot on Monday. They can only give the nasal mist to those under 50. The intake person said to me, "You aren't over 50 are you? I laughed and told her she made my day as I turned 60 in September! She told me I did not look it and obviously exercise. I told her I had both knees replaced and she was shocked!
You will be anxious, nervous, and even scared, but afterward by the time you reach 6 weeks you will feel much better. By the time you reach 12 weeks even more towards normal, and by 16 weeks you will feel fabulous.
It is a tough surgery, but very rewarding. I was glad I did both at once!
I wish you the very best with your surgery and recovery.

Crystal....what a "upper" for you!!! I have always felt that chronic pain can definitely make a person appear older than they are and being pain-free can make you younger. You are living proof that is true!

Appy....I know you are anxious about the surgery, but try not to worry. I believe you will be so pleasantly surprised when you find out how much better your knees are after surgery. You will be as strong and straight as those beautiful horses you ride!!

Appy-
Welcome to BoneSmart! Crystal was one who especially encouraged me when I was waiting for my surgery--she's such a great example of the future that awaits us! This experience is difficult but so worth it. I find small improvements to be thankful for every day and you will too.
Keep that wonderful photo where you can see it and know that being there is just around the corner!
Blessings,
Irene

Hi, Appy,
I am 5 weeks post BTKR surgery and am doing very well. I can take my dog for walks, go shopping, do the 30 stairs to my bedroom. I still have swelling and stiffness but I am using lots of ice and elevating. I had my surgery on October 16, 2009 at the Holland Orthopedic and arthritic centre in Toronto. That's all the do are hips and knees. I was told that I'd be back 50% in 6 months and 90% (pre bad knees) in 9 months. Should be completely normal in one year. I look forward to riding again, and all the other things I love to do. You can see my journey at broken link removed: https://www.christinesnewknees.blogspot.com - I'm sure you will get lots of encouragment from everyone here. There are some great success stories out there. Good luck in your surgery.

My knees were fine sitting and lying down before they were replaced just like yours. It is still soooooo worth doing. Who wants to sit and lie down for the rest of their lives?! Even though I might have occasional soft tissue discomfort, my new knees are stable, usable joints. What an improvement!

Best of luck, Appy! Can't wait to hear from you once you're on the "other side!!!":thmb::wink:
