Hello All I am new to the sight and I was wondering if anyone here is having or has had there TKR at HSS?? If so I am looking for opinions positive or negitive Thanks Ralph From Ct.

Wow I would have thought that somone on this Forum would have gone here and had there TKR done? Ok where in the City have you gone then? I see there are people from Ny that have been posting? I have based my decision on statistics and a little bit of what I have read. I hope I am making the right decision???

If you go back in the threads and find the NY posters--- you can send them private messages and ask where they had theirs done. I can remember at least two from NY but don't remember their IDs for sure. The PM notices will go to their regular e-mail boxes if they are still signed up....

I am in Oregon-- no help here. Good luck!

My Dad sees an OS out at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital. He has OA but due to his age and current situation he is not pursuing TKR. He has found relative relief with Synvisc injections. His OS works out of Stony Brook as do many other OSs. I grew up on the Island and have not heard of hss. I will check with my older sister who is head of Ambulatory Surgery Recovery at SUNYSB.

I had tkr in Nov 07 @HSS. I can't say enough how good the hospital & staff
are. They give you an hour class on what to expect post-op a few weeks before surgery & it is very helpful. My surgery went very well & I was able to come home with VNS assistance for home health aide & home pt which was arrange byHSS social worker. I would say that HSS is the best hospital in NYcC for tkr. I know several people who had surgery elsewhere & their experience wasn't as good as mine. I would recommend HSS highly for anyone thinking of any orthopedic surgery

I don't have personal experience with HSS but I read medical journals for a living and the doctors at HSS do a great deal of research and are known for developing many surgical techniques as well as prosthesis and rehab protocols. They also only handle orthopedics and rheumatology so everyone who works there have a great deal of experience in the field as that is all they do. They have consistently been rated #1 or at least in the top 5 in the US News and World Report listing of the best hospitals in the US for musculoskeletal problems and surgery.

I have a friend who has a bone disease that had numerous surgeries at HSS through childhood up to adulthood and she said they were the best. She would even fly from Los Angeles back to New York if she needed surgery.

They also do the largest number of TKA and THA per year in the US.

If you can get some referrals to a specific doctor you will probably have a very good outcome.

Though even the best hospitals can have a bad day, overall they do have an outstanding reputation and are clearly at the cutting edge of orthopedic surgery.
