Hi everyone, Well just when I thought things were kinda looking up, guess what I took the biggest fall yet. I have had little spills but not like this one. Saturday I had my grandaughters for a visit. My dogs stay in the kitchen when they are here so dog food bowls were out of place. Later that night in the relaxing phase after they went home I got up to brush my teeth as I headed back through the kitchen I kicked the dog food bowl spilled this little tiny piece of kibble on the floor and then proceeded to step on it. That is all it takes for me to lose my balance. Trying to protect the knee I twisted it and went crashing towards the floor my head hit the refrigerator and I fell like a straight piece of board on to my good side still trying to protect the knee which I had already twisted. My husband raced in to find me on the floor and in so much pain I couldnt breathe. He proceeds to tell me he is calling for my Rescue Squad (which I am an EMT on) No way was I going to let him do that I was in my PJs, no make-up and I know it sounds silly but my guys were not coming to get me. I made it off the floor after about 20 minutes. I knew I had done some damage to what extent I will find out today. I have been icing every 20 minutes and then 20 minutes off some of the swelling has gone down. Moral of this story is don't walk through your kitchen at night with the light off. I wii report back after the OS appt. later.

Wow sounds like you took a really bad fall, will be waiting to see what the OS says ......I pray for good news...........take care

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Mayberry,
I am so sorry to hear this. It sounds like you should have done what your hubby wanted and gone in to the hospital. But I can understand the no make-up and Pj thing. I will pray that that you will be able to come out of this fall without too much damage on the new knee. My fingers are crossed too!!!

Mayberry, I am so sorry to hear of your fall. Please let us know the outcome from your visit with the doctor!!! And....my dear.....you were NOT wise to veto calling 911 so you could be checked out immediately!!! At a minimum, you should have gone to the Emergency Room even if hubby had to drive you. The replacement joint is strong, as are your bones, but you needed to be checked out. Actually I'm betting your squad would not have cared one bit about the no makeup and PJs....they would have ONLY cared about YOU!

Yeah, May! Certainly NOT a time to ignore a spill like that! Well, let us know what your OS said! We'll be waiting to hear!!! I bet if it was anyone else, you would undoubtedly come to their rescue!!! Tsk, Tsk!!!!

Oh, you poor girl! I hope you'll be okay and nothing but a bruise or two. Do ice continuously, though. Much better.

I suppose it's my Health and Safety training but I never go anywhere at night without turning on lights. It only takes one little bit of kibble!

(sorry - bad joke!

Thanks for all your prayers and concerns they paid off. X-rays all clear. OS says probably tore scar tissue which is not a bad thing but as he put it in his words "Hurts like an person". I asked him about my balance and how a darn piece of kibble could do so much damage. He says to take wider steps and pick my feet up a little bit higher and that should help. Again thanks to all of you for your prayers and concerns.

Whew! Even with all the pain you've been through, there is relief in knowing the new joint is fine. Those things ARE tough!!! Okay, now you've had your "Oh NO!!!" moment....that's enough. No more and you must promise to turn on lights from now on.

So glad you are okay....and that you are minus some nasty scar tissue.

I am Happy for you , I actually was thinking about you earlier and I have a dog so thats good to know .........Stay Well ............

0Thats great news, Mayberry! Now watch your step and keep those lights on!!!! :)

Jaimie, My hubby and my 19 yr.old son said the same thing and they said if they catch me walking anywhere in the dark they were going to make me wear a helmet. They are so not nice. Oh and something else my OS said today, I asked him about the disgusting grinding and rough feeling I have in my knee and he told me it is scar tissue. So some good did come out of the fall although I won't be doing that again I hope.

There are a number of us on the list who have had IMWOA (Inadvertent Manipulation Without Anestesia) and have come out better on the ROM for it.

Mayberry-
So glad everything turned out OK and you're back on Recovery Road!
Blessings,
Irene
