Once again an up and down day! After a good nights sleep I didn’t really feel like breakfast but didn’t think anything of it. The physio arrived at about 9 and I started to get up. Well I felt dreadful, sick, hot , cold, dizzy....immediately the physio got me back to bed. I had a slightly raised temperature but my BP was OK (for me).I wasn’t really in pain but they gave me some paracetamol and called the on call doctor and consultant. Over the next few hours I stated to feel a bit better, all results came back normal and by about 3pm I managed to get up to go to the toilet.
I have no idea what happened but I am now feeling so much better, had a short session with the physio and felt really confident on crutches. The consultant surgeon was great and confirmed the decision to go for a replacement rather than arthroscopy, apparently there was a 5p coin size of bone on bone.
Analgesia had been changed to codeine and paracetamol which appears to be working a treat.
Going to try stairs tomorrow and hopefully home!

Recovery can be a bit of a roller coaster. Just hang on - it will get better every day!

Glad things got better for you this afternoon. I was on codeine and paracetamol and it worked for me too.
If you felt confident on the crutches I am sure you will be ok on the stairs and then home. Yippee
Looking forwards to hearing good things from you tomorrow.

Another good night! Manage 4.5 hours solid sleep before waking feeling stiff rather than in pain. An ice pack sorted this out and I went back to sleep.
Have got up washed and dressed without too much difficulty and am now sitting up in a chair waiting for physio. Again no pain although incision hurts when I move, nurse is bringing me more ice to help with that.
However they have discovered I have a temper, hope that doesn’t delay things!

A low grade temperature is not uncommon, as is a low grade Temper!:heehee:
I do hope things get sorted and you will be able to get home where you can get more comfortable.
Healing hugs @tessa :loveshwr:

Hi @tessa Sounds like you are doing well at home, after having a few ups and downs in hospital! No fun, but you are on your way now. Always great to get home.

The advice here to ice every where that is bothering you is great. I find it to be a wonderful pain killer. Try for several times a day as it will reduce swelling...don't wait for the discomfort.
Wishing you a restful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow

So glad you are home.
No use in stressing over all the different weirdnesses and pains...
Do keep ahead of the pain with your meds and try to just roll with the flow at this point.
All temporary...and well worth it.
Healing hugs @tessa

Smart thinking, tessa, glad the icing and elevation took the edge off until it was time for your next dose of meds.
Hope you have a nice Tuesday!

A very comfortable night sleep was had!!
Decided to sleep in the spare room, the bed appears to be a perfect height and also means I don’t disturb hubby!
To be honest I needn’t have worried. Went to bed at 11am, took a dose of oromorph and slept soundly until 2am when I woke, wasn’t really in pain but took codeine and paracetamol . Managed to get out of bed and go to the loo without disturbing hubby back to bed and slept till 6.30.
Now lying in bed relaxing , no real pain but think I will follow the principle of taking pain meds when they are due rather than when needed.
My left leg is very swollen once up will get icing I think

Things seem to be going fairly well at home. Definitely do the meds by the clock so that you don't get too much pain.

Have been taking meds regularly and iceing a lot and very little pain, more stiffness when walking.
Have been walking every hour or so and managed 2 50m walks. Didn’t feel this was too much.
However, my leg is very swollen from the knee upwards, ice on it at the moment. Is this normal?
