Hi I am new to this site and must say how helpful it has been. It's good to know that there are others out there who are in the same situation.I had TKR on Feb .6th and have been doing well. I am now 11 weeks post TKR and am having a bit of a set back. I have painful clicking at the back outside of the knee which feels like something catching like a tendon or something. It is preventing me getting the bend which I was getting and is preventing me from walking too far. Last week on week 10 I walked comfortably ( using walking stick)for 4 km but today I found it difficult to walk 400m.
I go to the gym and cycle 3 times a week for 10 to 12 minutes and do PT exercises at home. I live in UK and we don't seem to get as much post op. physio as you do in America.
I am having my other Knee replaced in June so am keen to get this first one sorted out. I had such a good start that I am very disappointed in this setback.
Does anyone else have this problem? I don't get to see my surgeon for another couple of weeks.

I think there is a thread someone had this. Can't help myself I am afarid. Josephine will probably give you an answer soon though. What part of the UK are you in. I am originally from UK, emigrated to Canada 17 years ago.

Good luck. Sue

Hi Judy. i can't help you much either other than to say stick with it. And eventually some one here will have some experience with your particulars. Won't it be great when both of your knees are fixed and you are on your way to better?!

Thanks for replying.I guess someone will have had the same thing. It will be comforting to know I'm not he only one. Judy
PS I Live in Poole Dorset.

Hi Judy, If it feels like something mechanical and not the normal post-operative pain, I think I,d be inclined to go see a qualified physio and ask him if theres a tendon or ligament in that particular area that may cause your problem. Failing that ,its your surgeon thats your only course of action really. Good luck with it anyway, cheers klinger.

Judy, I never got to go to Dorset, hear it is a lovely place though. We lived in Ashford, Kent before we emigrated and quite a few other places before that.

Hope you get to see a doctoe about your knee problem. Keep us posted. Good luck in June too.

Hi there, Judy.

First off, how long have you been having this problem
?

Secondly, is it swollen or does it hurt when you press on it with your fingers?

There is actually no part of the prosthesis 'at the back/outside of the knee to catch on anything. But there is are large, strong ligaments.

I would rather be inclined to think that you have developed some tendonitis or something similar. This inflammation prevents the ligament in that spot from being able to slide up and down in its sheath as it should. It can stick as well which would account for the clicking. What you need to do is get back to your surgeon and let him take a look and decide what - if anything - needs to be done.

Hi Josephine, thanks for replying. There is no particular swelling and it doesnt hurt when I press it.It is painful when I walk especially down stairs The pain is only there with the click. It also hurts when I turn over in bed. It does feel like it could be a ligament. I have a hospital appointment on 6th May so will cope till then.I guess if it is tendonitis it could right itself, Bye for now Judy
