It was a beautiful day here on the North Coast---I went out and pedalled 10 miles---haven't done that in a long, long time! It sure beat sittin' on that #$%%^$@ exercise bike getting no where.

Trust me ladies and gents---your time is coming, and it will be soon. Day after tomorrow I will be five months post bilateral TKR---and now, live is good, and gettin' better everyday. Remember, all of your hard work will pay off! Trust me on this one (wow, I sound like a used car salesman...)

Great job Tim. I look forward to that five month mark and beyond..It is slow but as we discussed a couple of months ago, effort equals results and poor effort equals poor results.

Wow, Tim!!! How great!!! Unfortunately I got tired just reading about your 10-mile ride and will now have to go to bed early tonight. Sigh........I am sooooo impatient!!!

Someone sent the bad weather up my way today and it was just plain nasty outside. I went to the gym and road the indoor bike 8 miles. Tim, do you think 8 miles on an indoor bike is the same as 8 miles outside? I always wonder that. Is it really equivalent? I don't mind the indoor bike as long as I have my ipod. Keep at it Tim!

Someone was asking the other day if the ache from the weather gets better and I'm here to tell you that at 6 months it's still bad. The knee pain wasn't from the bike ride because I do that all the time but it was because of the weather. I took a Vicodan which is a rarety for me and it made me hiper. Am I the only one that gets hiper from pain meds? Percs make me want to run a marathon. Karen

Generally I take 1/2 pill. If I really hurt I take one. If I take any more than that I can't sleep. I just zone out and come on the forum.

How terrific - 10 miles! I'm so proud of you and appreciate you sharing your success! I'm only 3 weeks behind you! God bless you! Skeet

Karen, I stopped taking my Darvoset today because I didnt' feel like they were doing all that much good, I didn't hurt all that bad, and.....I think they DO make me wide awake when I take them at bedtime. I'm going to try a Tylenol PM at bedtime and see how that does. The real story will be when my therapist comes tomorrow and I'm only on Tylenol. Hopefully it will be okay. I started feeling a little of that queasy stomach now that it's been close to three weeks on the Darvoset. Dang, that's the same that happened to me the first three weeks with the hydrocodone! Maybe I just wasn't meant to be on pain pills for any length of time. Or it's my bod saying it doesn't need them anymore....who knows!

You guys know that I work on a produce farm during the summer---they are market gardeners---I either drive a tractor, or work in the market---I do whatever needs done. Anyway, I normally drive there, but this summer I plan on biking everyday---about 7 1/2 miles sround trip. Gotta help my knees, my waist, and my wallet---the Ford F-150 4X4 is great to pull a trailer full of firewood, but lousy on gas.

Ref, happy for you. This is probably one of those quality of life things you wanted back and now you're there. Thanks for the encouraging example of how it will be. Jen

I have often wondered if the miles on a stationary bike were equally to the miles on a real bike. I used my MP-3 player and had a newspaper and a book to read when i was riding the recumbent bike at the gym. My real bike has a very accurate cycle computer that con tell me the distance, the elapsed time of the ride, the average speed, my fastest speed, and total number of miles for the season, as well as a clock. Next time at the gym, i am gong to ask the guy at the desk about the exerbike.

!0 miles on your bike. What a great achievement Tim. Well done. It so great to know what we can achieve if only we could be patient. Look forward to the time, I can pedal my stationary all the way round.

Good for you! This is my 11th week. I finally got all the way around on the bike on my 10th week. This week my PT made me ride for 4 minutes. That was the longest 4 minutes of my life! I know I'll have to work up to it. I burned all of 5 calories! Guess I'll go have a Tic Tac!

You almost got me in trouble.... Sitting here at parent-teacher conference time...only 3 parents have come to see me tonight (in 3 hours). Decided to hop on the forum and see who is hanging around tonight.... almost burst out laughing outloud at your comment about the 5 calories. I sooooo identify with that! Laboring away on the bike or the NuStep at PT....and watching that calorie counter move so dang slowly. Tisn't fair!

Everyone would have wondered what I was doing over here.... grading papers is not THAT fun!

Congrats on the progress! Once you get around on that bike you will make progress quickly on ROM. Scary the first time tho...

We are supposed to have temps in the 70s and sunshine this weekend. I think we might get our bikes down off the garage wall and try riding a bicycle that actually GOES someplace! Just around the neighborhood, nice and flat.

Anyway--- thanks for the giggle. I needed that!

Lucky you, sunshine! We are having rain, possibly freezing rain and maybe snow storms, it was lovely today though.

Enjoy the bike ride, be careful though!

Everyone is asleep around here....I'm being bad again..I'm sittin here with a moonpie and a glass of milk. Not exactly low carb. I'll have to punish myself at the gym tomorrow.

Tim, you are an inspiration. I am almost 6 months post TKR, and this is my year to get back on my bike for the first time in years! I mean the real bike, the one that actually goes places, like yours. Not the one in front of the TV that I've ridden very hard over the last few months, but it's still in the same place.

I'm putting "get bike back in shape to ride" on my to-do list for the weekend. No, better yet, I'll put it on my husband's to-do list...

Sue

What is a moon pie?

Nursepair! Your life is not full yet if you have not tasted a Moon Pie! Doug needs to send you some!!! For Southerners, it's a whole food group in itself!
