TeeJay's recovery tale

Why, thanks, Teejay, for the non-firebrand compliment! You made me smile--and laugh! I'm going to post one last time here & then "get outta" your thread and let you keep doing the uplifting job you're doing. :thmb:

First, the sadly uninformed staff at your hospital should be challenged, corrected and re-educated, especially if they are really telling patients that 90 degree restrictions are lifelong, regardless of approach. Perhaps you & your surgeon should attack this issue together--think how much good you could do right in your own backyard!

Second, I disagree with what I'm reading as your perception of APs tending to be apologetic. I truly think it's more tact & sensitivity--at least that was my motivation. It's human nature when you're hurting and scared to "compare notes" or try to find benchmarks for your own progress. I made sure to put my progress/milestones in "anterior context" only to ensure those with other approaches did not compare themselves unfavorably. Or maybe our different perspectives are just a Mars/Venus thing . . .

Finally--for the record--yes, I'm a HUGE anterior fan. Based on my experience, I can't imagine why anyone who has to have a THR would opt for anything else. Will I say that emphatically to anyone who asks me personally? In a heartbeat. Will I "promote" it here? Only so far as to share my personal experience--as clearly and precisely as I can--no more, no less.

And did I feel a bit alone a year ago? You bet! There were very few anteriors on here--probably because they did so well they neither sought out nor stumbled across a forum like this--which I recall Jo pointing out at some point. So why was I here back then? The same reason I'm STILL here--one day, while recovering, I serendipitously discovered an amazing community of incredibly diverse, wonderful, caring people whose understanding and empathy went way beyond the common bond of an artificial joint.

So as we used to say back in our glory days--Peace!

This piece of universe happens to be your property and your rules apply, I appreciate that. I’m certain we could embark on an interesting ten-year dialogue about the advantages and shortcomings of various THA techniques, but as I don’t have a horse in this race, I really don’t care. I’m real happy with what I have, and if someone after thorough research chooses something else, more power to him.

This may sound rather arrogant - especially after only one-month THA experience, but I’ll bet that anyone in the know would prefer the anterior approach to other options. I’ve no way of scientifically proving it, so people need to decide by themselves which one they would select for themselves, spouses, children, parents, or friends. Better yet, how many anterior hippies would prefer pos, and how many posterior hippies would choose anterior approach, should the need arise for a second surgery.

We are all adults, and all the information is available here or on the Internet and in several languages, should one be interested in learning. The problems is that it’s difficult to trust anyone anymore, and some hippies don’t even have a say in who’s going to cut them open, not to mention the technique.

As much as I agree with the ‘choose your doc, let him decide,’ I’m still trying to discover a gauge to measure the dude. Should I just believe him? Count the number of his surgeries (all gazillion could be bad surgeries, Judet has operated only ~2000)? Well, nobody said life is fair.

Josephine, I once spent a weekend with a fervent Soviet communist and we had rather interesting and at times heated exchange of ideas. I did my best to criticize his country and he disparaged the west the best he could. He never lost his cool and was a perfect gentleman to the end. I was so curious about his calmness that I had to ask why my criticism of communism did not seem to bother him at all. He said, “If communism can’t stand criticism, it’s not worth anything.”

BoneSmart and you (and Jamie) deserve all the praise you receive.

I truly regret having missed you all these weeks. Well, better late than never. There was so much I could have learned from you and I would not have felt alone – poor me. I revisited all your posts today, and I think I know exactly where you come from. I appreciate your contribution immensely. Thank you for sharing your story.

I already had a conversation with my surgeon about the absurd information the hospital spreads, and he was quite embarrassed and promised to redo the book. I’m in the process of composing a proposal for him, so we will see. I did not restrain my criticism. As to the hospital, the lady who is in charge of the Joint Floor is totally dense. Subsequent our initial conversation about the subject, she requested a written ‘complaint.’ I listed every misinformation I’d found and sent it to her. She still does not see anything wrong with the hospital telling clients that their product is inferior to that of other hospitals. She told me, “Nobody else has complained.”

I’m totally new in this, but even I can see that a change is needed. How many fellow travelers postpone his/her surgery because of the 90 degrees forever advertisement! How difficult is it to provide proper information? I’m somewhat busy trying to get my business going again, but retreating from this battlefield is not an option.

Renee, you’re absolutely correct, apology was a poor choice of words. Regardless, there should be no need to conceal the magnificent exceptionality of the AA, yet C’est la vie. You sure did not spare words. Good for you. Keep up the good work.

I’m with you; AA is the only option for me and mine, and I’m as perplexed about the feedback as you are. Now that I’ve been duly put on notice, I’ll quit posting about AA forever. I truly love freedom, and freedom of expression is the most important measure of the former. Any censorship is bad. Any suppression of ideas, not to mention facts is dubious. If you can’t promote your experience here …

The atmosphere here is amazing. So much support and caring. I’m not going to spoil that further.

Heal well.

Peace.

:shk: Oh my! You heard of Judet? That's amazing! Where did you find that snippet?
