THR Tarajeane has a new hip

Glad to see things are improving.
Keep the faith!

Hi, it’s just a long process, I still have swelling in my calf, ankle and foot, when I get up after sleeping , have terrible pins n needles in my foot. It takes time , my thigh was swollen a week ago and now it’s not. It can be hard emotionally, we just want to get better and not be in pain. I will be praying your knee gets better.

Does anyone have suggestions on Restless leg syndrome? It has kept me up all night for the past two nights. I tried increasing magnesium, massage, walking, stretches...

I’d like to know if there are any answers to this too.

Incision question, Is it common for incision to be bumpy? And if so when does it usually start flattening out?

Wondering what I’m doing wrong that I don’t really get reply’s on my board?

Hi @Tarajeane
Sometimes posts come in so fast things get missed.
Hope you are having a restful day!:ice:

My legs would NOT stay still, especially at night, for the first months...I have heard members that have opted to get medication prescribed to help with it but I don't do meds well so by the time I thought I would just have to ...it began to ease more and more...so I never did.

Mine was mostly flat within a few months except one little knotty place at very top of my anterior incision on one leg.
Much smoother now.
Early days for you, but definitely will be well worth all of these aggravations.
Healing hugs, friend!:roseshwr:

I had very good success using Palmers Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E on my incision. I waited probably 4 weeks before I started to use it as I was worried about putting anything on it earlier. In a week I could see a huge difference. I had dissolvable stitches and I don’t know if that matters.

In the past we had the policy of telling people not to use anything on their wound prior to it completely healing up. And even then we would tell them that massaging things into the wound in the hopes healing would progress better wasn't necessary.

However, that has changed since we became aware of hypochlorous solution (HOCL)....and specifically a hypochlorous product called Active Skin Repair Hydrogel. I encourage you to click on the link in the blue NavBar and read our newest educational section on Wound Care. In it you will see references to using HypoChlorous Solution as soon as possible on any wound as it is a strong antibacterial solution. In addition, the sooner a person is able to use it, the sooner the product can start working to improve the appearance of a scar.

We have also created a Hypochlorous Fast Facts sheet that is available via either of these links on the website:

https://bonesmart.org/hypochlorous-hocl-solution/?source=woundcareathome

Hypochlorous Fast Facts

You can go to the Wound Care tab to read about how wounds heal, the Hypochlorous Fast Facts page to learn more about a product they can actually use from Day 1 to promote better healing.

If you have concerns, you can print out the Fast Facts sheet and discuss it with your doctor (who may very well have no clue about hypochlorous solution!).

Oh my, how could I forget? :what:

I’m also using the Active Scar Shield, now called Active Skin Repair Hydrogel.
I started with that after a few weeks past the surgery. I would have used it sooner but that’s when I found out about it. Again, it’s super easy to use. I now use both.

Hi everyone happy Friday:). So far feel I’m doing great. My only pain is when I’m sitting. Just sitting in chair hurts the front of my hip. Car rides are the worst.
I’m 3 wks and 2 days. Any advice?:)

Anyone have the sensation that they can feel the hip implant move when bringing your leg out to the side? It feels weird. No pain or anything though and able to move it fine. No clicking sounds..

Hi @Tarajeane,
I had my op on the same day as you, but went for both sides!!
I have still have trouble sitting for more than a few hours, I get uncomfortable ache in the front of both hips.
I had anterior approach, and so also get discomfort around the incision area there as well in sitting.
I take a cushion if I’m going away from home, and that helps for a while, otherwise I just have to stand up and walk around for a bit.
My recliner is still the most comfy chair at home too.
I have felt that weird sensation too moving my hip to the side, sort of “clunky” is all I can call it, no pain. I asked my Physio and she it was normal, as the muscles around the joint will still be adjusting, and can be tight so the movement is not smooth, if that makes sense!

Not that I can remember...perhaps someone else!
Hope you get some good rest tonight @Tarajeane !

Happy One Month Anniversary!
Wishing you a lovely weekend as you continue healing
@Tarajeane

Thank you! I will

One month down..:yes!:
Continued best wishes for speedy healing.

Still having hip groin pain when I walk unaided or if I’m sitting and then stand to walk. When does this usually go away??
