Having my left knee replacement this Friday(June 19th), and was just wondering how long before I can go in my swimming pool?:pzld:

Hi, Allegheny. Welcome to BoneSmart. Congratulations on your surgery date!

It will be a while before you can be submerged in water. Your incision must be completely healed and that can vary from person to person. Your doctor will tell you when it's allowed, but you might want to plan on a couple of months without swimming at least. This is major and very serious surgery. You don't want to risk an infection or reopening of the wound as you're healing.

Hi and welcome.
It will be a while and it depends on how well your incision heals.
Also, you will have to ask your doctor. I was not allowed until
8 weeks. I just started water therapy which I love and I am an
just tomorrow 11 weeks.

The risk of infection is a biggie until the incision is completely healed.
Good luck on surgery and as they say here at Bonesmart "See you on the other side" Be sure to post and keep us informed as to how all is with you.

I was allowed at 6 weeks but mine last scab came of then. You Dr will give you your time, you they can look at it and tell. Gives you something to look forward to, you will love it....Hang in though it will be worth the wait........Hope you are feeling well...........

I got back in the pool at about three weeks after surgery. My incision still looked nasty but the surgeon said it had healed and I was free to swim. Of course, I couldn't swim well or much. You're still pretty tired at three weeks out. I just used the pull buoy for about 30 minutes a couple of times a week. I'm now swimming three times a week for about an hour without the pull buoy.

I also got into the pool at 3 weeks---but I had the MIS surgery, the incision is smaller and it healed very quickly. i love the pool--you can jump around and walk really fast with no ill effects. But, I don't do much swimming--just walking and bouncing mostly. I do use a kick board and have lately (5 weeks) begun to kick for the length of the pool and back. But, I have no stamina---so, not as much fun as when you do it effortlessly.

I am a hippy, my doc told me at 3 weeks it was OK so off I went and swam every day I could.
.Ask that doc of yours
judy

good luck friday:thmb:
