Well, we here in Northern Ohio received at least a foot and a half of snow! We had 20 inches in our backyard...and had to run the snow blower (y'all in the south have never seen one!) four times on Saturday alone. People were told to stay off the roads or else they would be arrested, and we were snowbound in our house from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon...my kids were home from college on spring break and were board to death. Snow was coming down at times about an inch an hour and we had blizzard conditions...

We heat our house with firewood, and luckily we had brought in plenty---and my wife was off from work on Friday so she went grocery shopping on Friday AM...

I used to love winter as a child, but after a while, this gets really old...

Man..I thought about you guys! I can't even imagine what that would be like! My crew would have gone "the shining" on each other.
This is probably a stupid question but is the snow STILL there....when it snows in NC, it's gone in a day or two.

My hat is off to you!....it's got to be rough.

Tim C. They actually made you stay off all the roads? We usually have a couple of roads close here in that sort of weather, but Saturday we were still able to get out locally. They are very good with the ploughs here I must say. We had almost 2 foot of snow fall on Saturday, but on Sunday we went out towards Toronto and the roads were as clear as a bell.

Patti. We have waist deep snow in our backyard. We have had snow on the ground since November. It is a long winter this year. This is another reason I'm not driving yet.

We still have about a foot right now---it is warming up and melting. After a snow like that, the one thing you do not want is a heavy rain---flooding will occur. We are supposed to get an inch or two tonight---it snows here in Ohio actually until May...

This is what many of us use---if we do not have a landscaping service plow us out...

(For those south of the Mason Dixon Line, this is what we Northerners refer to as a "snowblower...") I would imagine some have never seen one before

7 and1/2 horses---did a great job on our driveway---Cleveland Hopkins Airport was shut down, and some counties issued a level 3 emergency...thousands were without power for days...

Yeah, we have the same looking snowblowers here! Great inventions!! Hope to get one next year. Our neighbours help us out in bad storms.

My two "snowblowers" are now in college---my wife and I decided not to pay for a plowing service---on average it takes me 20 minutes to clean my driveway...I am sure glad though that I have a 4X4truck...Gas ain't cheap but I can go just about anywhere...

No, I've never seen a snowblower, but I do have a good weedeater, heh, heh.

I want a good, small gritter cart but one that will deal with wet grit as well. Any suggestions?

Down south we eat grits. I have no idea what a gritter cart would be. Something for gardening??

I think J means something that spreads grit, which is what they use in the UK to help melt the ice and snow. We use salt and sand here Josephine. I have never heard of a gritter cart myself, sorry I can't help you. Doug, my husband loves grits, always orders them when he works down south. I had them too when we stayed in NC once. They are OK as long as you have plenty of sugar on them!! I know, you are not supposed to. I love porridge (oatmeal) that way too, the Scots eat it with salt!!

Sugar on grits???
Down here that is close to a hanging offense. A real delicacy locally is cheese grits with fried mullet( a type of fish).
If you can get some grits for your husband, put some sharp cheddar cheese in them. Add just a little salt. Some add a bit of cream or half and half to smooth them out.
You can also fry grits, but that's another story.

Oh, theycheese would make them better, the ones we had came with breakfast and were tasteless. Not sure about the fish, not much of a fish eater myself, wish I was, so much better for you than meat. I will try that, but will probably have to wait 'til he goes south again as I have never seen grits here. Thanks Doug, I should probably go off line soon, it's after 10am and I'm not showered yet, not even had a cuppa either!! Have a great day!!

Here in New Yawk we call them Cream of Wheat...LOL... I call them grits, however I eat them with raisins, some pecans and a little brown sugar and cinnamon... I know it is wrong but still good. I also cook them with Shrimp... Great now Im hungry...

Okay Nu....let mama give you a little lesson. Cream of Wheat is WHEAT....Grits IZ CORN! Cream of Wheat is good with sugar or maple syrup....Grits IZ good with cream, butter and cheese....the three food groups!

Go girl. I just got through smoking three chickens. Have you ever use the John Boy and Billy Grillin' Sause? That darn stuff is good.

If I didn't have a pukey headache, I'd surely be saying YUMMMMMMM!...and, yes, I've used it....good stuff!
