My surgery is officially set for 10:30 tomorrow morning. So far I'm just a little nervous. The thing I've been most worried about is the fact that they do not use catheters. How is that going to work during surgery and while I'm waking up???

Anyway, I just finished making high fiber muffins and trail mix. I'm looking forward to being on the recovery side.

Hi Diane--Best of luck tomorrow. Not sure about the catherer. I had one, didn't enjoy it, and would have traveled a long way to avoid it. My cousin had his hip replaced in Baltimore and they did not use a catherer either. He said "no problems!"

Diane, I wish you the best for an easy and routine surgery tomorrow. Being a little nervous (even a LOT nervous) is completely normal.

As for the cath, you shouldn't have the need to go for quite a while....you're not taking any liquids in before or during the surgery. Once you are snuggled in your hospital room, you'll start drinking fluids again and things will get back to normal. Don't worry about this one bit....you'll be fine.

Hi Diane. Haha I worried to but they said it wasnt an issue. I guess if it was I surely was'nt aware. lol. I am so happy you are getting this done. You truely will feel better. It is a lil hard going the first week or 2 (was for me) but stay on your medicine and ice and elevate and you will be fine. Please let us know how you are doing. I went to see my sons football game Sat. I never missed his games but since this I have missed alot, but when I went Sat it was the best game I have ever seen lol. I was happy to be out and about, and much better then before surgery...My prayers are with you !!!!!!!!!! You will be fine.. Kim

Hi Diane,

Not sure what to think about the catheter; as with TBone I had one but didn't like the experience very much. Surgeons seem to ahve a variety of different protocols regarding little things like pain meds, blood thinners, how long to stay on crutches, etc. I suspect this is just another of those quirky differences that won't matter at all in the end.

Good luck, we will be waiting for you on the other side!

Best of luck tomorrow!! Looking forward to seeing you on the other side.

As for the cath. I have no clue execpt for what the others said. If you have to tinkle they have hip bed pans!

I had one and was happy I didn't have to get out of bed the first day or use the bed pan.

Thanks everyone.

I wasn't exactly looking forward to having a catheter, but figured it would be easier than calling for help every time I need to go. Oh well, I guess people overly concerned about their dignity shouldn't go to the hospital.

Diane

Yes, it pays to have a bit of a sense of humor when you're in for a hospital stay. Most people have at least one funny story to tell after the experience. But on the other hand, the nurses are usually so wonderful and caring, that you really can put yourself in their hands while you're there.

Hi Diane, The advantage of no catheter is that it reduces the chances of a urinary tract infection, and that's good! The nurses will know how to deal with any situation following surgery. In any case, you will quickly be on your feet and able to get to the bathroom. All the best to you tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you....

Hi Diane....Well, this time tomorrow, you'll be on the other side! Don't worry about the cath....there's nothing you can do.....so gather up your positive thoughts, and pack your patience and sense of humor! Best of luck tomorrow! :)

Thanks again everyone!

I've stopped worrying about the no catheter thanks to your responses. I'm still not too nervous: it will be interesting to see how much sleep I get tonight. We need to leave around 7 am since it takes a bit over an hour to get to the hospital, so I need to be getting to bed.

I'm so thankful for this wonderful forum. I'll post in the recovery section when I get home.

Diane

Hi Diane! Best of luck to you tomorrow. They didn't use a catheter on me either. I had to use the bed pan the first couple days. I was embarrassed and felt bad calling the nurses in for help all the time, but they made me feel so comfortable about it. IT WILL BE FINE!! :) DON'T WORRY ABOUT A THING :)

My youngest took my computer yesterday so you are in surgery now, I guess. Good thoughts your way from California. Can't wait to hear from you in recovery, no more pre surgery worries!!!
