Well I've done it...selected my surgeon and surgery date: April 1, bilateral total hip replacement. It is as if a weight has been lifted from me. I am very much looking forward to living my life again. I'm sure I'll have questions, and I know there are risks, but I am at total peace with the decision and I am looking forward to the day. I'm sure I'll have questions...but thanks for all the info and support so far.

Good for you Tom! All the best for the 1st April - and don't hesitate to ask everyone here lots of questions - I've found their help invaluable! Just wish I'd discovered this forum BEFORE I had my hip replacement! :)

I am so pleased we could help you, TBone. Having a peace about this is so important. I only hope I can follow your example!

T Bone,,,,,,Start the countdown.....you'll be getting your life back! Great decision,,, :)

And you WILL live your life again, TBone! I went on my first extended hike today (3-1/2 months out RTHR) and it felt absolutely wonderful! Pre-surgery, I had to ride in a wheelchair on a family trip to the zoo . . . It's really amazing what a difference this surgery can make--and what a terrific support all the folks on this forum can be! WE'll all be here for you before and after April 1!

Thank you all! I've already received a lot of info and support from this forum and I'll be looking for more. I've told my family that I plan on playing basketball at the family reunion in August. While that may be a bit of a white lie, I do plan on golfing at my reunion in late October/early November. That's my goal. I still have to straighten out some insurance issues. I am traveling for this surgery, and I'm out of the normal geographic area for my plan, but I expect to work that out this week. I also must pass the physical, but I'm ready.

That's great news TBone!
I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Let's have a pain free summer!
I am only 2 days away from surgery.....I can't wait till it's over!

tbone ... Congrats. Great Decision. Start to focus on the things you WILL be able to do after the surgery. Focusing on the future really helped me. I am about 80 days from my surgery, free of pain, and every week I am able to do something I haven't done in a long while. I will circle April 1 and keep you brightly in my thoughts.

Thank you golfer. I'm already doing that. One of those things will be golf. I started to play golf just as my problem became limiting and quickly quit because I couldn't pick the ball out of the cup without looking very awkward. My current goal is to be able to attend a small reunion of high school friends for a tournament that has been meeting every year for 18 or so years to celebrate the loss of a friend to cancer. That is in mid to late October. My wife and I have other plans as well.
Thanks again
Tom

Keep yourself fit Tom and August is not a white lie(barring complications).;)
You may not be the Flash and I wouldn't volunteer to fall on a hard court but...
Hey maybe your team mates can get you a bright orange pinny to wear - "no fouling" the bionic guy.
I was done in Sept and showing my dogs in Nov. Now I have to remind myself that I really shouldn't run flat out for more than a half mile. I try to do more power walking than running but it is hard when you feel so good.

Best wishes and tell them no April Fools!

Donna

TBone, congrats on setting the date. I can relate to that feeling! I set my date as well -March 17th. Just 28 days away for me. This board has been great and there are so many helpful people out there. I wish you the best. I'll be sure to post after my surgery.

HopAlong - we'll be thinking good thoughts about you tomorrow, and waiting to hear from you soon! I have my first PT appt. tomorrow, so it's a day for firsts! Best of luck to you! Karen
