New to this, any info would be greatly appreciated. Is there special exercises that will help in recovery stage.

Welcome to the forum! I'm also having surgery on the 18th for a TKR. Since joining this site, I've read through so much helpful info from previous posts in the pre-op and recovery forums.

Here is a copy of our post op reading to help you prepare ahead of time for your upcoming surgery.

Here is your copy of the Knee Recovery Guidelines, the articles are short and will not take long to read.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

6. Access these pages on the website

@calimom55 and @Dance53 I'm having my surgery on Monday Oct. 11 and since joining here I have learned so many things that I would not have thought of asking my doctors or PT before the surgery and feel I have myself and house as best prepared I can because of all the wonderful people and moderators who share their information. Good luck to both of you.
