Well this is a smack in the head. Just received a call that my surgery was canceled because my A1C blood glucose score (I'm a type 1 diabetic) was too high. For you diabetics on here I was at 9.4 and have to be sub 7.0
This means at least another year's wait IF/WHEN I get my score down.
I am hardly walking at this point so the time frame will be a challenge.
The doctor's office explained that the rules on A1C have changed because there has been too much risk of post operative infections. So... I get it.
    Stay tuned.

So sorry your surgery is cancelled. But yes - better to be safe going into this major op.
Assuming you get your score down why a year? Is it just the wait time norm? Frustrating to say the least!

I'm so sorry for the wait. I'm sure you will be getting very hard to keep your scores down so all will be able to heal well.
Praying maybe by some miracle that might not make you wait so long.
    Please take care of yourself.
I've always been do impressed with your extracurricular passion of off road riding!
Bet you are ready to get back to it with no pain.

Sorry to hear this and to hear they put you back at the end of the line because of it. Thought they might at least put you in some kind of 'hold'/wait and see queue.

Well done on getting your glucose levels down, not always easy (my husband is diabetic) and especially not with the g/f thing. Glad you've got the go-ahead now, roll on (or not!) the 11th

Congrats! So it mut have more to do with current blood sugar levels than th A1C score, which is cumulative over a longer period of time. THat's awesome1

Thank you folks. Just for clarity, I had a secret weapon to get my A1C (yep it was A1C measured over the full 3 months before I could get the go ahead), called the Freestyle Libre with sensor.

The week after the surgery cancellation my diabetic nurse told me about it. Amazing device - it allows you to measure your glucose level at any time. I discovered lows in the middle of the night and was able to see exactly how certain meals and excercise affected my glucose levels. I actually started doing something called sugar surfing where you do small insulin adjustments throughout the day. Fantastic product. This Facebook for users expliains a lot of it. https://www.facebook.com/groups/748445301888935/

    Cheers!

    Best of luck to you!
Will be thinking of you on Monday and looking forward to your first post.
Please consider setting up your Recovery thread on the Hip Recovery side today so you're ready to roll Post op. We have reading material to leave for you. You may find it easier to do it today, rather than after surgery.
Wishing you comfort as you await tomorrow.
