I am one of the few that have had a PIP joint replacement done. It was done on January 21, 2020. My joint was completely gone & I had acute bone demineralization. I had a trauma to that joint as a preteen which overtime a ganglion cyst formed. Now that I am in my late 60's I decided to find a solution to the pain & crippling the cyst was causing to my PIP joint. I had no pain from the surgery itself. The uncomfortableness did not start until the strengthening exercises were begun by OT. I feel I should have searched for a hand surgeon much sooner. But I do not regret having it done at all. My surgeon was fantastic!

Hi, @MaMar and welcome to BoneSmart. You'll notice that I've moved your post to a thread of its own. You posted in one that hadn't had any activity in almost a year and it is likely that people interested in your surgery might not have seen it. If you'd like a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

I'm thrilled ot hear that you've had a successful surgery. It's too bad that whoever you were seeing about your hand (or your GP) didn't think to recommend a specialist so you could have been treated earlier. But, on the flip side, implants and procedures are LOTS better now than they were even 5 years ago, so you are much more likely to have continued success.

You're still pretty early in your recovery. Plus your soft tissues must relearn the proper way to work with your new joint. It takes a while. Just try to go slowly and don't attempt any exercises that cause more than just mild discomfort. Slow and steady is best.

I have a blown out PIP joint, and I'll be interested to hear about your recovery. I hope it goes well!
