Saw my OS this morning and talked about what kind of knee I'm getting. He said he usually uses Stryker, but may use a Smith and Nephew on me because I'm only 53 (love that, ONLY 53!!!) and it would last longer. Anyone have an opinion??

I think Smith and Nephew exclusively have Oxinium joints. This info is from two places:

To date, cobalt chrome has been the best material for total knee femoral implants because of its strength and relative hardness. However, studies have shown that cobalt chrome femoral implants roughen over time. As a result, every time a roughened femoral implant rubs against the plastic tibial bearing surface, the plastic surface begins to wear out.

Oxinium is the brand name of a material used for replacement joints manufactured by the reconstructive orthopedic surgery division of medical devices company Smith & Nephew. It consists of a zirconium alloy metal substrate that transitions into a ceramic zirconium oxide outer surface.
The ceramic surface is extremely abrasion resistant compared to traditional metal implant materials such as broken link removed: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cobalt_chromium&action=edit&redlink=1. It also has a lower coefficient of friction against ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), the typical counterface material used in total joint replacements. These two factors likely contribute to the significantly lower UHMWPE wear rates observed in simulator testing.

I'm getting a Smith & Nephew Journey knee impant. My OS said it was best for young active people.

I have a Biomet (pictured in my avatar) and I was all of 39 when I had my surgery seven months ago (I turned 40 this month).

I have a stryker knee so far ok with the knee itself............)I say if the pain is gone woo hoo...........)))))))) good luck to BOTH YOU YOUNG LADY ........) hehe
