Heh Old Friends and New,
I have been very absent on the forum because I have really been enjoying life. It happened around the fourth month post rktr like many of you have said was your turning point.
Are you ready for this.....I have planted 50 geraniums around my yard, trimmed the hedges, raked the mess and bagged it coming to about 8 large yard bags. I have transplanted around 30 plants and herbs into containers.
Of course I am doing this by bending from my waist not my knees as they still aren't bending the best yet. I am still going to therapy and can bend to 96 degrees and increasing weekly bit by bit.
I think what really changed for me around the fourth month was my attitude. I no longer felt like I was still recovering from surgery but that when I did work in the yard or house it was my remaining bad knee that hurt and I was just a little sore in my new knee.
I won't attempt to have the other knee done until next year as I get 60 physical therapy visits a year and I may use all of those this year.
I do drop in once in awhile to see what's happening and will continue to do that but for all of you just starting it does get better I can assure you. And for all of my old friends I can't thank you enough for getting me through some really dark times in my life post knee replacement.
I will stay in touch for sure.
Love to all,
Cathy

It was the magic month for me, too. I'm a few days from 5 months and it's SOOOOO good. I'll be having my Left TKR next year also.

Great to hear from you and that you're doing SO well!!

Hey, quit having fun without us! lol Enjoy your summer!

Newwoman, so glad to hear you are doing so well! Nothing like that gardening to give you exercise. I've been using that bending from the waist to help stretch out those muscles that have been underused for so long. It definitely works! Just don't overdo it in your joy of being free of knee pain!! Hugs! ....Jamie

Yoo hoo, Cathy! Great to have the update.

That's fantastic..I remember the painful pictures of you doing rehab..I seem to have turned another corner just this past couple of weeks. I just passed that magical four month mark myself.

One of the great benefits of this group is the hope that you "old timer" TKRs give us newbie TKRs.

All that gardening! Maybe there's hope for me after all...I so miss really grubbing around in the dirt and haven't done it much for years. Thank you for sharing all that you're doing. I'm eagerly looking forward to when I reach that 4 to 5 month mark--it seems to be a time of really getting back to life!

Weezy

At 4 months, my RTKR (Dec. 12/07) began to feel normal. I didn't think about it much at all. Today I do not think about it at all. My LTKR (Apr. 14/08) is just 7 weeks old and feels pretty good. Still some stiffness and a few aches but I think it is further along at this point than my RTKR. I still take Ibuprophen periodically. What a feeling to be able to do stairs and hills without the previous pain.
Cheers, Ross
