Stiffness on outside of knee

Am at the three month mark.
Things are going good.

Am wondering what the average length of time the stiffness around the outside of the knee lasts?

This a six month thing, year thing, should be gone already?

I went to the OS for my 3 month check up last week.....he said give it a year.

I have a co-worker who had "original" TKR some 17 years ago. The feeling on the outside of his knee never came back.
There are many, many nerve endings there that are violated by the surgery so Patti is correct in her 1 year assessment. I have about 50% feeling back after 3 months.

The areas that are numb, may stay that way or may heal. Hard to tell for at least a year. Be patient. If they stay numb, just remember how great your knee feels and go on with life. I had a huge part of my leg numb after my osteotomy, but when they took the hardware out of my leg prior to my TKR, the numbness disappeared... bizarre.

Just re-read the post. You were asking about stiffness, not numbness. The swelling outside and inside has a huge affect on the stiffness for me, so I would think it would be at least 6 months since that is the estimate my doc gave me for swelling. Just sayin'...

Numb, stiff - either way feels weird. one of my PTs said 9 months on swelling, I like skeets 6 months better. numb I was told similar to patti & dw, had to do with nerves injured during surgery and almost always heal, but eventually. Like skeet said also, still better than crunch & ow!
