I imagine the same thing that causes the hip to have stiffness! And the answer is BOTH!!! :sct: :skp: :pzld:

Hey Ouch....Stiffness might last awhile . When I get up in the morning its slow going for a few minutes. I do ride the lil bike and it helps loosen things up. actually I do that a few times a day.....I hope he is doing better overall though. You hadn't posted so I had my fingers crossed.....I think stiffness is pretty common just tell him stretch it out a lil thats about all......I hope he is getting better though....I hope YOU are feeling ok as well.....:)

I was fortunate to get limber quickly post operatively, and I exercise moderately. But still have days when I wake up and that knee is stiff as a board.
I don't think it's too much or too little exercise(although it could be either) but like others say, sometimes it just happens out of the blue. Humidity, coolness can do it. When it occurs I just take it very easy until I get back to my former self. Even if it takes all day. Don't know if that helps.....maybe your husband feels stiff all the time?

Hi Kim: Haven't posted lately as I really haven't had any good news to post. Had 3rd epidural injection 3 days ago, and that did not work either. The surgeon said the only other alternative might be surgery, which I know is out of the question right now. His panic attacks are coming more frequently too and quite honestly I'm just about ready to give up. He's got the pain, but he is mentally wearing me down. He is going to try a chiropractor tomorrow, anything at this point.
P/T is coming along, slowly. He seems to be at a standstill at 105.

Can you get him to a counsellor to help him with his panic attacks? They usually respond extremely well to counselling and even hypnotherapy - that is, learning self-hypnosis. That's how I coped with mine.

Yes Jo, he is seeing a psychologist, he had his 1st visit Tuesday. She told him to start taking a xanax every other day instead of waiting till he has the attack and then giving him one. She also suggested me ordering some tapes for him and to breath into a brown paper bag. As I type this, I can see he is getting anxious right now. The session did me a lot of good, I don't know about him as he has so many issues going on. We go back to her in 2 weeks.

Ouch

So sorry he is having so much trouble and you are, I am sure wore out.

But compared to where he was 105 is not bad. I know folks that have had the TKR and never got past 100 to 105. They are doing great and do most what ever. Tell him not to worry.

Not sure if you have children or maybe a close relative. Might do you good to take a few days off just by your self or go visit a friend or family member for a day or two. You really need it.

He will do fine without you for a day or two. (If possible for you to get away)

I really do recommend self-hypnosis - also called relaxation exercises. It's better than anything else I tried. And once learned, it's a technique you can always use.

He has a very big and supportive family. Problem is, he does not want anyone around him. If they come by, he starts to get very anxious and he will go lay down in the bedroom. The therapist said this is normal behavior for someone who has anxiety attacks, part of being depressed.
Jo, where do you go to learn the self-hypnosis?

Hey Ouch Im so sorry . Does he say what is making him anxious? His knee, his back or I hate to say it embarrassed. If any of that is true.....He should so not be.....Not everyone has a great great recovery and his has been difficult...Geez I know how tough it has been on you alone.....I sure wish we did live closer and I could help...If you ask your phycologist she will give you a hyponosis i would think.....Or maybe google it...I am so sorry Ouch I was so hoping they were getting better...Are you getting out all. You have to.....Stay safe both of you. I will keep you both in my prayers....

Yes, OUCH! a good hypnotist may be JUST the answer to your prayers! Best of good luck in a tough situation!!:thmb:

I totally agree with Jo about self hypnosis. When I had a panic attack at 5 1/2 weeks, I bought Rescue Remedy, and L-theanine and lemon balm and nothing really helped. I was worried for days afterwards that a panic attack would happen again. I had only had two others in my life and those were when I couldn't breath and the only lasted 1/2 hour or so. This time it was when I put my Xalatan eye drops in and they stung so badly. I'd taken these for months with no problems. The whole panic thing was related to the oxycodone and then the hydrocodone. I felt weak and fearful and too anxious to even read mysteries or medical stuff online. I'm totally back to normal now.

The only thing that helped a little was EFT. I know, I've scoffed at that ever since I heard about it a few years ago. Emotional Freedom Technique. If only they'd named it something else. I read the manual which I downloaded free. It's totally simple....just involving tapping on points of the body, kind of like accupuncture without needles. It is relaxing; it totally diverts your attention, just like the Lamaze method for childbirth (which I used when getting knee injections or going to the dentist). If something is bothering me, I can go through the routine 2 or 3 times and then roll over and go right to sleep. A few times I've started falling asleep while I was just doing the tapping mentally. At first I thought it didn't help, but I practiced it many other times and now it's fairly helpful.

Good luck. Ouch!!! ((:0). Keep us posted! And remember YOU have to relax and breathe as well!!!

Wow Pat that is good I sure hope that helps him because I know she has tried her lil heart out....Shes is very sweet....I sure hope the best for him......Keep us posted good or not so good....You can talk here anytime you know that......

I had a job finding an hypnotherapist and when I did, he only specialised in teaching it to pregnant women for use during labour! I had to really plead with him to teach me. As it happened, I was an ideal subject for hypnosis and got through the process very quickly. I'd love to find someone to have a 'top up' but haven't had any success thus far.

However, the relaxation tapes are pretty close to the real thing so I suggest you try one of them.

I have had anxiety problems off and on for about the past 30 years. Last year I went on an anxiety management course arranged by our GP surgery. The tutor was very much into the Bach Flower Remedies but I have always been very sceptical of them.

The people on the course were of all ages and sexes and from all backgrounds and occupations but all had anxiety in common. In the last but one session we all had to decide what particular remedy made up from about six of the Bach remedies best suited us as individuals.

As the time of my op approached I was surprised at how relatively calm I was and when the remedy mixture was finished I found a supplier on Ebay who makes them up. It may well be mind over matter but for me it helped as did some of the relaxation and meditation I learnt on the course.

Hi Ouch. Are things going better for you two nowdays? Seems it takes months to get over major surgery. Hope you're doing well!
