Just an update on my progress. Next Tuesday will mark one month since surgery...hard to believe...although some days, it's easy to believe! LOL

Next week, I'll begin my 3rd week with out-patient PT. I go 3x a week and this past week, on Tuesday, I was put on a few machines that put the hurtin' on me...i.e.: leg press, leg curl, leg abuction, etc. I was one stiff puppy the next day and iced like a banshi! Then today when I went and did the same machines, it was not as much a struggle and was put on two more different machines (I forget their formal names) and when I came home, after icing, did not feel as stiff or as sore. So, I really encouraged by that.

I have to ask though...does everyone at this juncture, struggle with the leg squats that they have you do. I just hate those things! Although I realize that they are beneficial in strengthening the quads, so that you don't plop down in chairs and what not, still...they're killers to do.

I need to go to Target to buy some more leg weights to do some more exercises at home. I'm lifting 3 lbs. now with leg lifts and it's not so challenging at this point.

I'm still not sleeping in my bed yet. Grrrr! It's the recliner most of the day and each night, but it's doing a number on my rotator cuff tear (I have a very small tear that does not requre surgery). The La-Z-Boy back kind of curves (concave-wise) and doesn't always feel so great on the shoulder. I have an appt. for a cortisone shot in the shoulder in about 10 days, so that will help.

Well, that's my progress report. Nothing too exciting or dramatic, but baby steps, as they said in the movie "What About Bob" is HUGE. LOL

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!

Hi Linda--sounds like you are really working hard in PT. You seem to be doing great.

I also am doing lots of squats--and lunges (hate them)--ouch!!!! I still have PT coming to my house---I am on Coumadin therapy--done this next Thursday--which is standard orders after surgery from my OS. So since I am still getting blood draws for the Coumadin level 2 times a week--I am designated" home bound "(of course I've been out shopping etc- quite a few times)--so PT comes to me and is covered by insurance. My home PT is tough--ATTILA THE HUN--she has me doing "advanced" exercises--I do use weights and a full range of exercises which work on ROM and muscle strengthening. I also am riding my exercise bike-now 30 minutes total-15 minutes x2-and walking up and down our private road 1-2x a day. I ice like crazy because my muscles are screaming at times. My flex is at 126 and extention is straight--ATTILA makes sure I keep it. After next week--I am planning for outpatient PT--no more ATTILA-of course I do LIKE her!!

So Happy Labor day to you---take care--and keep icing. Regards. Nancy

OMG, I'm so glad I live in the UK, we dont get any of that punishment, LOL.:shk:
I may be wrong but I think we just get told to exercise.!

Cricket, those squats are soooooo important. I remember having to do them. For me, the worst exercise was (and is) for balance and leg strengthening. The PT has you stand on one leg for MINUTES at a time. When you get to where you can stand without wavering too much, then you have to start reaching for things while in the "flamingo" position. Oh my.....that still challenges me!!

Good luck to you! It sounds like you are doing really well!!

I start out patient PT next Wednesday. Doesn't sound like much fun. I've been through it twice with my hips, but this sounds like it could be worse with the knee. I am going to have the same therapist I have had in the past, so at least I know she is nice and very good.

I had in home, out patient and then aqua The PT will be aggressive as you allow. I never allowed any aggressive PT.
My rom is great and I went with the non painful and slow go.

It worked great.

Kelly...instead of continuing to spend money on different amount of poundage for your weights, get the kind where they have like little packs that you can add one pound at a time. You can find them at sports stores. I got my at Dicks Sporting Goods. They were $19.99 and you get 2 sets of weights for your ankles and they go up to 5 pounds. When you get above 5 pounds, just put both weights on one ankle. Like when you go to 6 pounds on your leg lifts, put 3 packs in each ankle weight. By buying these, you will save money instead of having to go out every other week to but heavier weights. P.S. Target doesn't have these kind...I looked there first...LOL.

So am I, Dawnie! In fact, when I spoke with Shaun about going to the gym at my 10 week check-up, he said only the bikes and the cross trainer, NO treadmill, leg machines or squats. Go figure!
