Hi,

I had a THR on 10/27/09. I did not have staples at all, in fact, was glued shut!
I wonder why there is such a difference in closing?

I do know that everyone's surgery is different. Maybe your surgeon needed to close with staples and had to make a large incision. You may want to ask the surgeon.

I have only heard good things about having staples removed. Here in the US, the removal is often done by visiting nurses or at the surgeon's office.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes! There's no particular rhyme or reason, just surgeon's personal preference.

Stephen, the number of staples is generally governed by the length of the incision. The optimum spacing for them is about 4-6mm apart. I reckon that, because you had a revision, the surgeon needed more access, hence the larger incision.
