I had my TKR in November of 2007. I can walk for ever, dance, play with my twin grandsons, but stairs are still really uncomfortable. Anyone have some really good exercises to increase knee flexibility, or do I just need to be more patient. Do stairs ever become as comfortable as walking, cooking, hiking etc.?

Melanie, I have the same problem with my knee replaced last October. I can walk painfree perfectly fine but have pain in what seems to be the joint when I go up or down stairs. It also sometimes hurts when getting up from a chair. I've wondered if it could be scar tissue. Looking forward to seeing what others say about this. Karen

Same boat here---- but with my other knee being so sore I am doing a lot of "one leg" steps with my new knee being the "good" knee. It seems to be more comfortable to turn sideways instead of straight on and "ups" are easier than "downs". I am hoping it is a time/healing thing and will just keep doing my exercises. Maybe bicycling and long-arc quad exercises with ankle weights will help.... what do you think?

Thank you ladies. I'm from mid March and still do 90% of the stairs in the world 1 at a time. As this forum always delivers, lets me know I'm not alone. I figure it'll come but have decided that even if it doesn't my life is still ten fold better even one stair at a time. If it's any consolation, a woman in my church who had her knees done 3 years ago said it does take along time for the pain upon rise from sitting does take a long time to diminish. I still have that too but have noticed lessening.
