Sorry to keep asking questions but the questions are coming to me the closer I get to THE day. I've had surgeries on both knees..years ago. The first one they did a lot of repair work and had to open it up all the way, the 2nd one on my other knee was arthroscopic, they were at the age 15 and 20. I can still remember the feeling in my knees, will it be the same feeling after the surgery? I remember a very stiff feeling, not being able to bend them at all.:pzld:

When you wake up the are banages very thick and you will not be able to bend you knee for some time but with the help of pt you will in due time, just remenber to take your pain meds on time and lots of ice and dont rush anything

Dont even apologize we all did it before surgery ask anything...Actually you hould be able to bend they want you to. Take it wasy but that is the idea bend....I mean the first few daysd yes honest painfull but take the medicine and it will make it better..But stiff I dont really remember......But bending yes they want that......Post any questions Please..........The bandages are thick but thet had me doing leg slides in the bed...

That "tightness" was probably swelling and you very well may have some of that in your knee during recovery. So don't be surprised. But that is why you need to rest, ice, elevate and take your pain meds on a set schedule. All that helps reduce the swelling.

After my surgery, my leg was positioned on a continuous passive motion (CPM) machine, so the leg was bending. I also had the anti-embolism legging things that inflated and deflated. There was also a complicated drain thing that spirited away excess blood. I am told I will have the same things this time around.

Really makes you feel bionic, doesn't it!

I had 9 previous surgeries between the 2 knees, the first in my early 20's. The BTKR was in many ways easier as those surgeries required a straight knee, along with a full leg cast for 2 months. Not fun.

Your knees will be swollen and might be more than some others if your previous surgeries left behind alot of scar tissue as that means the OS may have to work a bit harder to get the new knee in. My knees were a total mess with many tendons and ligaments not in the regular places and my poor OS will had to struggle. He said if he had done the right one before the left, he would not have done the left at that time because of the length of surgery (it went about 2 1/2 times longer than planned).

You will probably not have that much problems but if you have concerns, have a talk with the OS ahead of time
