Jenn, I'm in Kansas City. I have no clue how much a wheel or kiln costs. When I get it uncovered (it's buried in the basement), I'll have to do some checking. My dad bought it for me in 1972. I was a purist back then and insisted on getting an old-style one with the big stone wheel that you turn with your foot, so it's not electric. My dad thought I was nuts, but I felt like it gave me more control over what I was doing. Plus it was good exercise! I never used it much, though, because I didn't have a kiln to fire any of my pots and it was expensive to take them somewhere. I think the kilns are electric and actually I dont' think they are too bad on electricity for a small kiln. They have all sizes. My neighbor across the street is a high school art teacher and does big ceramic sculptures too...he has one in his house, but I haven't ever gone over to see it. I spoze if I ever got the wheel uncovered, maybe I would use it again.....but we have so many demands on our time I just don't think so....we'll see.
