Hi all,

I got a copy of my medical records from the hospital the other day. It cost me £45 but it's worth it to have a nosey.
Here are a few xrays that they gave to me on disk.

xray 3 is weight bearing.

I'm seeing my new specialist next Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

I have the arthroscopy report here but I don't understand it, it is all numbers apart from a hand written note on it saying "too young to consider tkr". Typical lol

OK I delved into the arthroscopy report with the help of google :D

Lachmans test was positive. He has ticked number 1.
ROM was 15 to 100 degrees
He was unable to view the suprapatellar pouch, patella and trochlea due to significant scarring.

Lateral and popliteal recess were abnormal due to scarring.

On all the condyles he is ticked G4, not sure what that means.

Anterior cruciate ligament was present but degenerate. ( I think that's what it says, dodgy handwriting)
Same with medial and lateral meniscus.

He has made some notes at the bottom which I can barely make out but I will do my best...

"In view of grosly degenerate knee. Grade III to IV changes and scarring, plan for chondroplasty of patella abandoned. Also patella not visualized due to scarring. Too young to consider TKR"

I found broken link removed: https://www.sportsdoc.umn.edu/Clinical_Folder/Knee_Folder/Knee_Exam/lachmans.htm that explains different knee exams complete with photos - learned a lot from it as I'd never actually heard of the term Lachman's!

Got these images to show you where these are. Area circled in red (and just above it) in first image is the suprapatellar pouch. And the area boxed in orange in the second one is the notch between the femoral condyles which is called the trochlea.

The G's stand for grade of damage:
Grade 1: Early changes show fissuring (breaks) in the cartilage
Grade 2: More extensive full thickness breaks in the cartilage
Grade 3: Intermittent loss of cartilage with breaks
Grade 4: Exposed subchondral (below the cartilage) bone

Often are in arthritic knees. Arthritis doesn't just effect the bone!

In view of the above, I think this is self explanatory!

Thanks for that Josephine, that helped me make sense of what it says.

So basically, my knee is really knackered lol

Knackered. Cool term. UK in origin?
The #2 xray pose is called Sunrise view I think. See what I know...
