I can't believe how much there is to do to prepare for all this. My phone has been ringing off the hook it seems. I have my 1st hip replacement on June 30. I have to go to a hip class next week, a pre op PT, pre admission testing, and that's just at the hospital. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row at home too. Add work the mix and the fact that I am barely sleeping due to the pain, and you get overloaded.

Eeyore,
I had no time to prepare. Found out after 5 years of hurting that it was not my scoliosis in my back but my left hip. That was January 14th of this year. Had an MRI and the diagnosis was not good. Saw the OS on February 14th and had surgery 12 days later.
In those 12 days, I had to figure out what to do with four teenagers, being 5 hours away in Dallas, a husband with a very stressful job and two dogs and a cat....lol....
You know, I think if I had a long time to think about it, I would have gone crazy with anticipation. But, I am like you. I will have to have the right arthritic hip replaced as well. I see the OS on July 10th. And this time I will have time to prepare because I have already been through it. The bottom line is the PAIN and you will definetly see the light at the end of a very long tunnel after your operation.
Just keep thinking positive thoughts. You will be so much better soon. Patty

Eeyore,
6 days ago I was in your shape. I had my right hip replaced last friday. When It came down to it I felt totally unprepared at home, So I spent my last free day on heavy pain meds hiking in the wilderness with my best buddies!!!
I got home a few hours ago and the world is still pretty much the same. Get what you can done, the rest won't seem so earth shattering when you return. If you have kids, remember the first when pottty training was the only thing on your mind????(Or maybe just my crazy mind)

I just reread this and I am not sure if it makes sense or not!!! The joys of percocet
Don't Worry

I understand what you mean. As you know, surgery is Monday. I'm scurrying at work trying to get my co-worker updated on things that will come up in the next few weeks. And get my office straightened up, too. It's too messy for my liking. I don't have much to do at home since I can't do it. I completed all that pre-op stuff a week ago. The only thing I forgot to do is the Advanced Directive and Living Will. I can do that in the next two days, or Monday if the surgery is later in the a.m. or early p.m. I do know this: somehow everything always works out. And it will work out for you, too. Remember, this surgery is totally worth it and you won't have hip pain anymore.

I agree that everything will get done and that that doesn't will survive. Work is hard in that I work in a one woman office. ME. I am having my surgery on June 30 and quarterly and half year taxes are due by around July15th. I met with our accountant yesterday and bless her heart she decided she is going to stop in and check them out after i do them from home before I mail them in case the pain meds inpact my knowledge. lol. She also said if I simply can't do them that soon after surgery she will just do them.

So now I feel better having a back up plan. My boss is being so nice about all the work i am missing and working from home. I would hate for him to get penalties for being late on tax stuff.

My main goals are to get all the pre op stuff done and clean the house where while I am recovering I won't have to look at this mess and stress over it.

Hey Eyeore,
My first thought was where do you live I will come and help you with the house!!
Then I remembered, I can barely walk to the bathroom. Pain meds do work when you are not moving!!!!
My advice on day 6 is to tell whoever said they can just do the taxes to just do them for you.
If you can squeeze out a little money, get someone to clean your place. I know you have to put things where you want them, but to clean floors, fridge or whatever. Relax a little.
The advice from Patty in Westexas was to keep up with the pain meds. I did not last night when trying to sleep, but will from now on.
Glad you have an understanding boss. I got fired!!! while on medical leave before surgery. I have consulted lawyers but can't get anywhere!!!

After recovery life will pick up somewhere. I just figure they gave me a lot of time to heal fully!!!!

All the best, sweetheart. We'll look forward to your first post-op post!

A friend of mine who loves to clean (go figure- she is like 105 pounds and a barrel of energy) said that after she qualifies for her black belt this weekend her life will totally slow down. So she offered to give my house a good scrubbing. So I am consentrating on just getting everything put away so she can scrub away. I am so excited. I have been so miserable for so long my house never looks as good as I would like it.

Plus this weekend my friend has offered her two teenage daughters to help me get stuff put away.

Life is good and GOD is great! He answers prayers big and small.

Sandy

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. I can't believe I am so looking forward to this; it's sad that I am. But, I waited too long. I would urge others to have the replacement as soon as possible. I'm not sure I will know what to do with myself. Eeyore, you reminded me that I have those taxes and quarterly reports to do myself. I will pray for you, too. Such pressure! I'm the treasurer for our city. I'm glad I can access my computer from home and my coworker can also bring me what I need. Our city attorney got all my information and typed up the living will and durable power of attorney and faxed them to me; at no charge. He's a sweetheart.
