Is it actually 3 months before im allowed to move my hip more than 90 degree's and start strength training and going back into my normal life style?

Im hoping that is just a rough estimate, because im a very young 20 and this is a long time...in the prime of my life to waste away on my couch. If it is 90 days this is fine...But im curious what your imput is, and how your recovery went. I would like to know as much as possible.

Another question i have, it has been 2 and a half weeks now since the surgery and i decided to toss the walker away and use crutch's...I find when i lightly swing my left leg (Operated leg) forward...it seems very tight and locks somewhat, not totally but it's very fragile still. Is this causing more damage to myself? or is it just because the muscles are so tight they need to get relaxed.

On tuesday i start my physiotheropy with one of the best physiotheropists in my city, so im hoping through some intense pain i will gain more movement, because i still have next to none.

Just as a comparison...at 4-6 weeks I started to feel pretty good sitting in lower (regular) chairs at 90 degrees. Although I still need to use my arms to get up and down...and could not sit for any length of time....that is still the hard part today.

I think the key is the type of procedure you had done and healing process you will go through. You are gong to have your own time line. I remember having similar leg strength issues at 2 weeks and I am much older than 20. I am stil not 100%...but feel better than pre-surgery. I did get rid of the walker early on, and went to crutches week 2...and then to cane by week 3.

I am just barely able to pick things up off the floor and tie my shoes this week (week 9)..so I am seeing a slight progression past 90 degrees already. By 3 months I am hoping it should be even better. Hope this helps and best wishes.

I'm not sure its so much are you "allowed" but more "can you." I'm at 6 weeks and my PT attempts to bend my hip in the "not allowed" zone, but it just doesn't go. Your body just takes time to heal, and there isn't a whole lot you can do to change that. You should be able to do most things at 6 weeks. I can and I'm 47, but you just use common sense. Do you really want to have the surgery again because you did something stupid? Not me, although the breakfast burritos in the hospital were pretty good. :-)

Haha, well the food at the hospital where i went was horrible, like always...Was even worse when i spent 2 months straight with my infection 3 years ago.

Well the problem is, im very stubburn, i was a avid athlete, i played basketball provincially (Im canadian). When i first was hurt with the staph infection that led to septic hip arthritis with a tiny strand of cartalidge left...I was told i would never play a competitive sport again, and i would be lucky to even walk.

I proved them wrong, i ended up playing for team saskatchewan again 1 year after my recovery...Of course i could not run but i made changes to a rough jog...I did limp, it was painful..But for me, sports > Pain.

The reason i am worried now, i know of course i probably will never play basketball again...But my stubburness might turn my hip into something worse than it should be...SInce before, even though the pain was astonishing, it was a pain which could not become worse...But now it can.

I am hoping to take up golfing quite a bit, i just bought new clubs...Since it is pretty much all i can do now (Or what i was told). And im hoping i can get into some weightlifting to keep my body strong as can be (When the time is right of course).

I appreciate every and all of your responses...Helps make this crappy time easier.

youngGuy,

I'm at 3 months and I'm back to the gym, cycling, swimming, elliptical trainer and light weights. I know you are anxious, but take it easy. This is not the rest of your life! heal and be gentle with yourself. Your time will come. Be patient.
