I really miss sleeping on my side, My PT told me I could try @ 4 wks well It is now 5 weeks. :pzld:

I was told to sleep with pillow between my legs I think if I remember right to place people between my thighs. I know its a physic thing for me Im afraid of popping my hip out ( I had LTHR) I was wanting to try on rt side. I miss sleeping this way so bad and so tired of sleeping on my back :rant:but dont want to do anything to hurt healing process of hip.

Have any of you started sleeping on side if so what is the proper way and at what point did you start . Did you sleep with pillow at your back also?

thank you for your time , God bless

trish, i got home yesterday. os said fine sleeping on side. so i worked with it. trying straight up and down so much pressure. so i got on the couch and put a pillow between my legs and slept partially back. i got the best rest. sleeping on my back was killing me with headaches. i had rthr. laying on my left.

Trish,

I've been sleeping on my non-operated side using the adductor pillow I got at the hospital. I just flip it sideways and it supports my leg from my lower thigh down to my ankle when my legs are bent. Just make sure the pillow is thick and firm enough so you don't break your restrictions. The first time I tried it I placed the pillow and then rolled slowly on to my side so I could see how my hip felt.

I'm wishing I could sleep on my operated side as well, but it feels like I'm lying on a ridge.

When I was still in the hospital the nurses propped me up on my side (non opereated) to sleep . They used lots of pillows behind me. I tried all types of things at home as I could not stand to sleep on my back. I did keep or try to keep a pillow in between my legs as well.
Good luck

This is the same thing I did. Oh it felt so good not to sleep on my back. Just make sure you use a pillow between your knees. Happy sleeping.

I didnt come up with an adducter pillow, I roll one up , I am going to try you suggestions, and I appreciate your giving me youthoughts and how it has worked for you.

I hope it works. For us side people its missed alot. Feel lost when we can go to the side...right....lol...Al in time...I know ugh!!!!!I like your signature........

Trish...I know how you feel. It took me 3 weeks before I could roll on my side, gently, no jerking or bouncing around. It does help placing the pillow between first then roll. I didn't use one at my back, but I used a thick king size pillow (I'm short so it went from upper thighs all the way to my ankles). When I slightly bent my knees I could see my op leg was not straight over my other leg, rather set back more (if you can picture that) and that assured me I wasn't going to cross that mid-line. Now I don't have to use the pillow but I still do some nights. Kinda got used to it. I still can't sleep on my op side sometimes because it feels like I rolled over on a Tonka truck. Hope that goes away soon. Sweet dreams!

I am a kneesie, but can totally relate. I am a side sleeper and it took a long time with assist from pillows to achieve this to some degree of comfort. Still have to switch from side to back and then other side during the night when I'm done there.

I did go to our local Kerr drug store/family health and found many items. Always thought one of those things that we used with infants to keep them on their side would work. Anyway apparently they have that and many more things to keep you comfortable. If you don't have a store like that, just google search it and you will be amazed the STUFF you can get from UPS. Right Kim? :D
