Update Dec. 07, 2022.
Saw the Surgeon today in regards to Nuclear scan & Osteomyelitis plus constant pain in left knee.
He did not seem to think the little Osteomyelitis area was a concern.
At the end of the visit he has referred me to another Surgeon.
Will wait till my Family Doctor responds about Osteomyelitis.
Thanks to everyone for your responses.
Don

At the end of the visit he has referred me to another Surgeon.
How well does he know this surgeon? Do they work together?
@ Jockette
There are only 4 Surgeons in our area so yes he knows him. They both are rated high.
Some friends we ski with at our mountain have used him as some have used any of the 4.
Maybe he went this direction because I said I did not want a revision but wanted the Osteomyelitis dealt with.
He was coping my Family Doctor as I have also done.
My family Doctor is great and will look after me.
Thank you for your message.

I hope they are able to come up with a good plan for you.

This is an update I wish I was not writing.
The 25th. Nov. 2022, my Nuclear Scan showed Focal Osteomyelitis involving left medial femoral condyle adjacent to medial margin of femoral component of left knee arthroplasty.

As I posted update Dec. 07, 2022, the Surgeon referred me to another local Surgeon to address the Osteomyelitis shown on Nuclear Scans.

Today I called the referred Surgeon's office trying to get date for a visit.
The phone message very clearly stated appointments from referrals would be sent to my referring Surgeon and wait list is 9 months! YES, 9 MONTHS!

British Columbia & all of Canada does not have Private self pay Medical.
I have contacted my Family Doctor, earliest appointment is Friday afternoon.
If my Doctor has nothing to offer, I will request all related information.

I have send out messages for possible pay for service.

If we are not successful, would Bonesmart have a referral in Seattle Washington?

Thanks for all help, Please, I am scared $hitless.

I am so sorry you're dealing with this and I wish you peace of
mind as you move through this. Possibly, Jamie, will have some names for you. sistersinhim has alerted staff with your request.

A member of staff shared this info back in Feb 2022 - It may at least give you a start in researching other possibilities...

I'd like to add my surgeon as well, if possible. I had to ask around for recommendations for a new surgeon as my two previous ones had retired. Dr. Lee was highly recommended by the head Orthopedic nurse of Swedish Hospital in Seattle. I would agree he did a great job!

The problem with finding a surgeon is that even most revision surgeons may not be the best to deal with osteomyelitis. I don't have any recommendations for experts in this area. The best I can offer you is my list of revision surgeons. You would need to contact each surgeon's office and ask if the doctor works with osteomyelitis patients. If the answer is no, then ask if they know of another doctor who does see patients with this problem. If you find any surgeons, please let me know so that I can add them to my list. We don't see a lot of members with this issue, but it does come up now and then.

I'm so sorry you are having to cope with this complication. I suggest you keep your appointment with any surgeon they set you up with for the 9-month wait. It will never hurt to have additional opinions as you work through this. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more specific with a doctor.

I took a look at the websites for these doctors and it does appear that Dr. Crutcher specializes in osteomeylitis. So try his office first. Good luck and let us know how things go. I know this is scary, but we'll be here to support you as best we can. Try not to worry.....

It appears Dr. Lee also has experience in osteomeylitis, so now you have at least two doctors to consult with. I've added a link to Dr. Lee's web page in Layla's post so you can read about him.

I'm the one who recommended Dr. Fredrick Lee be added as he was my surgeon a year ago last Aug. I'm glad to know he has experience in osteomyelitis so hopefully he can help you. I'm so sorry you have a 9 month wait in Canada! I hope you can get some answers sooner rather than later.

I will say I had a great experience with Dr. Lee doing my second TKR. I had no issues and recovery was quite normal. Good luck to you and keep us posted. :plugging-in-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon:

Had a Doctor visit today.
Maybe this is good news.
Surgeon & Dr. are now adamant that the Nuclear Scan is not showing Focal Osteomyelitis and suspect it to be a something left from surgery, like a bone chip because the pain is not near the location on X-ray.
Knee pain could be IT Band.

Did not want to treat with antibiotics without knowing what it is.
They are going to monitor it with blood work each of 3 months and any change they will open the knee.

Maybe I will sleep tonight.

Big thank you all for comments and wishes.
Don

This seems to be good news! It certainly sounds hopeful and I can see why you're breathing a sigh of relief with dreams of sleeping well tonight. It sounds promising that two physicians are in agreement about a possible diagnosis other than what you originally heard. Let's hope the pain eases and this ends up as just a blip on the screen. Wishing you all the best and a peaceful nights sleep.

@Layla
Thank you. Your comments help also.

You're welcome...you're kind! :)

Thanks for the update, @ski_bum. I take this to be a positive also. Hang in there.....
