Oh yeah...

No problem at all climbing or descending the stairs, but I slept in the recliner again last night. The bed the night before was more comfortable at times, but every time I shifted, it woke up my hip, which in turn woke me. Think I'll wait a few more days to do the bed again. I can take a hot shower every day now though! A TUXEDO!?!?!? HA! I don't even own one! Last time I wore one was my wedding; a rental. Driving? No problem there either, since I'm a lefty THR. Can't take those corners too fast though, it puts G forces on my incision, and feels like it's pulling open, which of course, it's not.

Tried to quote some of the posts. (I don't think it worked). Dalton- On the shower, do you have a small step stool/ladder? Our shower door is really narrow the only thing that would fit without any assembly inside was a small 2 step- ladder my wife got at the hardware store.
I shaved yesterday for the first time since my surgery. Went from a 103 year old to a 53 year old in about 10 minutes. Still left the stash and chin stuff (still off work). You will like going from a walker to a cane. You will have a lot more freedom.

GMAC,

All I have is a normal tub with a pointable but not removable shower head. The Wife got me a shower chair, but the instructions weren't included, so that got unceremoniously stuffed back in the box unassembled. I do have a sturdy towel rack in the shower to hold onto, so I just grabbed that and stood, with the other hand free to scrub. Worked fine for me.

Re shower chair: I went to a pre-op seminar led by one of the surgical nurses, & as long as it has the rubber or silicone thingys on the bottom of the legs, I can buy a $6 plastic patio chair to use in the shower.

BTW, Dalton, I enjoy reading your honest, funny posts! Thanks.

Thank you for saying so Joyce!

I try to inject a bit of humor in all my posts...
"the glass is always half full", looking for the silver lining, and all that... We all have to stay positive during this trying time!

Judy

It was my right hip and my car is manual rather than an automatic.

Dalton

Offcourse we have to remain positive. Today I walked without any aids for half an hour, slight limp but otherwise ok. Felt so good afterwards.

Thanks chaloo for the driving info

Dalton
Did you climb over the edge of the tub? Is that ok to do with the 90 degree rule?

I'd much prefer to use mine over the tub, but thought that was not allowed.

Any more shopping expeditions?

Judy

Jaz,

If I had a Righty, AND a manual transmission, I certainly would NOT be driving yet, at this point... No way Jose'! Also, WAY TO GO! on your 30 min. walk unaided... I'm about 50/50 between the walker and the cane, (not the NEW cane, hasn't arrived yet; I know, pics will be forthcoming...). I tried the 'hands free' approach earlier, and my legs are like aldente' noodles!

Judy,

Yep, I just stepped over the side of the tub, about 18-24 inches high, and at no time was I forced to bend at the waist > 90 degrees... I just stood the whole time, but I couldn't reach anywhere below the knees to scrub there, so the Wife (God Bless her!) came in and scrubbed the shins, ankles and soles of the feet for me!
~Shopping? Naw, not today. Did drive over to Mom's and helped tutor her a bit more on the new laptop we got her for B-Day, 30 mins., & stopped 2 doors down to visit Grandma Pinky for about the same. Got home hour and 15 min. later, and my hips said "Well, we're done for the day! Pull up a seat and relax!"

Dalton,
I'm going to try to remember to ask my pt tomorrow what the big deal is with the tub shower. Of course remembering is the big problem.
I had a funny situation in the shower last week. I had sent everyone out as the people were coming to look at the house (for sale). I lost track of time and realized I needed to get in the shower. My husband would be the opposite of a handyman.
ANyway he is the one who uses that shower, which is why I want to go back to using the tub/shower. Anyway the knobs are loose. I'm in the shower and the hot water knob falls off. I almost went to pick it up and remembered I can't. Went to call for help, then realized no one was home. Of course my reacher grabber is no where close!!!
Dripping wet after just about being burnt from only hot water, I grab my crutch and hobble to find my reacher. I just knew the doorbell was going to ring. Actually it didn't, I finally found the grabber after parading around naked on crutches and turned the hot water off!!!

One of those stories I will remember from recovery!!

WOW Judy!

That story made me both very sympathetic, and was dually hillarious! Not laughing at you, just with you Doll! I've had more than a few instances similar. My Wife pokes fun at me all the time regarding my current deficits, and I always reply with, "I resemble that remark!" LOL ~Sounds like you had quite the trial there... That's a mental image worth saving when I'm feeling beat down, and need a chuckle!

Moral of the story - always listen to your body!
