LOL Patty!

Yeah, I'm on my new laptop now, and it does about 50 things more, than I know how to use so far! It's a top of the line DELL, and has a webcam built in; I haven't even figured out how to turn the thing on yet! I'm thinking if I figure it out, I'll record a brief video and post it here. Of course, I haven't shaved in 2 weeks, and look like a real bum! Basically, I just take "sink baths" and change clothes daily. The only shower in the house is upstairs, and I think I'm ready to brave the stairs, but the Wife made me promise to wait until her next day off, so she can assist before I get up there. Ewww, was that too much information?? (Actually, I had a shower at Moms before I left there, as it was downstairs, but that was a week ago). I'm ready for about a 30 min. long shower tomorrow! LOL

Dalton,
I don't know how you are going to get up those stairs, but get in the shower!!! It will make you feel better.
I think you are using a walker which I hear is pointless on stairs. I had crutches already and got the pt to let me switch on day 4. Much easier to use.
Judy

Sharon, I got to nix the TED socks when I had the staples removed. Yea! That was the most exciting part of the recovery! Summer and TED socks DO NOT get along!

Happy to hear about the cane too! Karen

Update: I got my staples out today, and my PA told me I could burn the TED stockings. I almost jumped off the table and kissed her! After I got home, PT guy comes and walks me up and down the sidewalk with a strap. I must have looked like a dog on a leash to the neighbors, but at least I didn't have those durned TEDS on! Yippee!!! It's been a long day, and I am pooped. Have one more Dr. app't tomorrow with pulmonologist. Those appointments are draining at this stage of recovery. Just showering and getting out of the house by a certain schedule is draining.

Oh my Gosh Dalton.....Pewwwwww......Weeeeeeeee..... I say, Start climbing or crawling those stairs......

Sharon, Thrilled you are getting better....Know about those lovely white hose...It is so exciting when we graduate back to our lovely unshaven legs....lol....Patty

Thanks Judy and Patty!

Yeah, I was starting to stink, but had quite an outing at the OS office today, and went to Mom's to give her her B-Day Gift, (a laptop like mine! She loved it!), so I'm pretty beat. Yet, Jess is off tomorrow, so I will brave the stairs, just using the handrail first thing in the morning! (We live in a townhouse that's quite compact, and the stairwell is narrow and very steep). I will have a rejuvinating shower that will last at least 30 minutes, and shave this dang beard off, which itches like crazy. As far as the TED's, they didn't provide or suggest them in the hospital, but Jess got me a pair the day I came home, and I ended up never wearing them. Glad too, to hear how much you guys hated them. (I just took 325mg of aspirin daily instead, to keep my blood from clotting).

~Dalton

What's the deal with TEDs? I know what they are, but my THR (left) is scheduled for July 9th, & NO ONE has said ANYthing about having to wear TEDs!

Joyce

Dalton,
Hope you have one of those removeable shower heads and a seat....And, you will be soooo drained after that shower. Just take a pain med before and then go straight to the bed afterwards....Believe me, you will know what I mean .....Pewwww Weeeee... Smellleee and then Pleasanteeeeeee....lol......

Patty, I don't have either in the shower, (Jess got me a shower seat, but it didn't come with instructions, so she ended up throwing it into the trash, after an hour of frustration!) I'll be fine though, I can stand and brace myself just fine for at least 15-20 minutes. I JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR THE CLEANSING SHOWER!

Rejoice318~ Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you here! There's tons of great people here to help, including Patty, Judy, Jo, lots of others, and me too, if I can... Good luck on your surgery, and we'll all pray for you. As far as the TED's, I don't know, ask one of the Girls who've worn em'.

~Dalton

Hi,
I never had the ted hose . Even with my extreme swelling no one suggested them. I'm glad. At the hospital I had things on my calfs that compressed and uncompressed, some kind of pump.
Last summer they were on my feet. I prefer the calf one by far.

Dalton, I never got the shower seat. I also do not have one of the hand held ones. The first days home I was a little wobbly. At this point you should be fine.
Enjoy !!
Judy

ReJoyce,

From what I am reading some have TEDS like I did and some do not. Bottom line, ASK questions before the surgery. These hose are to help prevent Blood Clots...The Doctor will do several things for that...Foot pumps in hospital and/or hose and meds that prevent that....JUST ASK QUESTIONS and you shall get answers...That is the bottom line...Patty

Yes, those TEDS are supposed to help clots, but it sure didn't prevent mine. I had several in my lungs, and today had to fight a losing battle of what health care provider will monitor my Coumodin treatment. That is a whole new post, and I am steaming! Running around to useless dr. appointments two weeks out of bilateral TKR is a body and brain drain. I am about to have the Blue Cross Ombudsman intervene.

I had surgery two weeks ago and had my first dr. appt today. Everything is fine and I'm doing exceptionally well. I felt so good, my husband and I went to the book store and browsed (no sitting) for at least 1/2 hour. Now I'm sore and can't wait to go to bed. I should have eased into it.

Patty and Judy,

OH BOY I FEEL BETTER! Braved the stairs today, and it was NO SWEAT! Had about a 20 minute shower, shaved all that hair off my face, and feel like a million bucks. Tried to download a new pic, but the new laptop is being difficult... I'll figure it out soon though...

Dalton,
Glad you finally got in the shower. It always makes me feel better, especially the first one in the hospital.

I went for a walk around the block tonight. This time I took pain meds about an hour before I went. Still some pain, but not like saturday nite.

My problem here is my daughter does not like to take me anywhere as I walk to slow.
Tonite my husband had to go to our favorite, rather small store. He asked my 13 year old if she wanted to go, she declined. I noticed he did not ask me. Then he said he was kind of in a rush. I said I go too slow for you , don't I. Of course he said yes.
families!!!!
My pt's last day is thursdy. She wants to take me out to my car. I sure don't feel ready to drive. I will at least see how my foot moves from the gas to the brake!!

Judy

Judy

I had cementless op on 25th April. I started driving 5 weeks post op. I could not believe when I first moved my foot from the gas to the brake pedal. It was so effort less. There was no pain at all. I was so glad that I was no more a burden to anyone else in the family. 9 weeks post op it is getting better everyday.

Jaz

Jaz,
Did you have a left or right hip?

Of course when I do start driving, I will once again take on the role of taxi driver for the 2 youngest!!!
Judy

Now Judy,
Watch the taxi driver thing or they will eat you alive.....Kids become maneaters when it comes to the car and places to go....lol...you just take your sweet little time on that one......Patty

Patty,
I agree. I am in no rush to drive. Especially since little one has now just figured out that I can't!!! At least she has stopped coming to me for rides.
I have my next apt at 6 weeks, I don't plan on driving before I talk to the doc.

Yeah - bet you'll look really spiffy without that stubble! But don't forget the tux when you take the photo of you with your new cane!
