Shin Pain

Made it to the doctor today and the good news is the knee joint is perfect. According to him, the pain is coming from the fact that I'm still getting a little soft tissue swelling in there. He said most people are finished with that by 5 or 6 months out, but I'm one of the "lucky" ones who has it longer. He said to be patient and it will get better. Take Aleve when it hurts and don't worry about it. There were absolutely no hairline fractures or problems with the new knee joint at all. He also xrayed my right hip as it had been hurting too. Saw only the slightest of arthritis there and said it is probably the same thing causing pain....soft tissue swelling due to some activity I've been doing. So I am very happy. I needed to hear that reasurance from my doc looking at an xray and showing me how purty everything is. I don't have to go back again for any more checks....only return if there is a problem or question. I'm glad I went ahead and saw him a little early. Sometimes a person just needs to hear that everything is fine.

Great news Jamie! I think it's normal for us to fret about our new knees sometimes even at 7-8 months out when they hurt. We have so much blood, sweat, and tears invested in them! I still have regular twinges in mine and wonder about it sometimes--- but as long as it doesn't get worse I am going to keep icing it when it needs it and have faith that I am still in that 1 year healing mode.

Jamie, I am so glad to hear that everything is okay! You are right...sometimes you need to hear it from the doctor. I think we all get doubts about our healing. I'm kind of surprised your doc said the soft tissue should be healed by 5-6 months. My first knee is 10+ months old now and I swear it was hurting more yesterday then the 2 month old one was. It's better today. Karen

Great news! Hopefully all will continue in a positive manner for you. I have to keep telling myself that this is going to take a while to heal. I guess the 1 year timeline is the best way to think about things.
Glad to hear all is well and Purty!
Marianne

You guys just keep working hard. You won't believe how good you feel around the six month mark.

It's true, Doug. When I think back to months ago, I can see so much progress. Having a little pain now is really no big deal when compared to the past inability to do simple tasks. But knowing that there is no "structural" problem associated with the pain I get is huge for me. I think I can worry a mountain out of a molehill sometimes and I like to just get that nipped in the bud when I feel myself going down that path.
