Hey everyone! Was on another thread and felt that we should have a new and very much IMPROVED September Club! How is everyone doing now that we are on the other side?

Shuga,
If thats you in the pic,,,looks like your doing awesome, lol.

My only fear for you is ..you will raise that leg so high you could pull the other one right off the ground,,and you will be standing on ,,,nothing.:hehe:

I agree awesome i think thats from before Mark is that right? But that is amazing , if i did that i would probably tip right on over......lol....

I wish you all a speedy recovery......best wishes...........)

haha...its actually taken after my first surgery in that time when I felt good and recovered and before I went downhill needing the THR. If (and when) I accomplish that again I will be sure to post a pic!!!

wow really you got that far after surg amazing.....great job........I still think i would tip over........lol..........im have no doubt you will do that again and i hope you post it that would help alot of people..........and great for you.......you can do it.......................)

hi shuga
this is a great idea at least people that are waiting for their surgery can look on and see how we are all getting on.
i truly feel great like i said in the other thread i sometimes wonder did i just have major surgery. ive gone from taking 12 pain killers a day pre surgery to just 1 or 2 a day post surgery.for anyone about to undergo this op for me it has totally given me my life back already at just 3 weeks post op so go for it the results are totally amazing.
hope all the sep girls and guys are doing ok and will post on this thread so we can check in on each other and incourage each other through our recovery xxxx

Thats fantastic Tracie!! I'm like you in that my body must be thanking me for how little medication it's now taking. I'm just over 4 weeks out now and yesterday was my first tylenol free day...I think its been years since I've gone a day without taking something. My liver is rejoicing!! Hopefully all our other Setpies will be along soon to check in!

Hiya,
I go for my 6 week check up this Friday. Hoping to get the all clear from doc to drive and at least start putting some weight on operated leg (perhaps one crutch or a cane). I do really need to get back to work - physically that is - I have been working from home.
Was also hoping that next phase of PT and rehab would start so I can start to get leg strong again as I can feel it has weakened from being featherweight bearing for the last 6 weeks - despite doing the exercises.
I have to say the leg feels ready for walking.
Sames as Tracie and Shuga - I only take pain pills now when I need them and I was popping 8 per day before the op - so amazing difference right there. Also have stopped taking anti-inflams which I was taking daily and didn't notice the difference when I stopped. So no more swelling from op or bad old hip!
So my kidneys AND my stomach are rejoicing!
All in all this has gone very well - I can't wait to get into next phase and to try out my new hip.
On the few times I do go out the house we drive past the golf course and I am very sad that I can't be there. You must realise that summer is now here in force in South Africa and summer hear is very beautiful (not that winter is that bad).
Can't wait to get outdoors ...

This forum has been a God send and even though I have not had any major problems being able to calm my paranoia has been so helpful (thanks especially Jo). I know a lot of people come to the forum when they have problems and therefore we see a high incidence of problems here - I just wanted to let people know that they often do go right as in my case and that should give hope to a lot of people who are still to have their ops.

Hi All, Checking in at 3 weeks post op. My surgical pain is way down now. I take some pain meds when going to bed and just Tylenol during the day. I'm doing PT twice a day although I'm going to cut that down to once a day. I am getting some pain in my left leg that my PT thinks is not muscular in nature. Her explanation is that the leg is just not ready for full weight bearing at this time. My right leg is doing great (for those unaware, I had a bi-lat THR on 9/22). I'm able to get out to my kids soccer and baseball games. I get really tired late in the afternoons so rest is a big part of my PT. We are starting to work in some new movements in my PT which is great since I am starting to get tired of the same old routine day in and day out. Both legs are really gaining in strength. I typically use forearm crutches when I am out and about. Went for a 15 minute walk outside yesterday with just a cane. That was a lot of work. I'm able to walk short distances in the house with no device. I only do this when working in the kitchen. Hope all are progressing well. Take care.

Shug - I could never do that even on a GOOD day! I'm 9 weeks out and do pop an Aleve every now and then because of low back pain. Even tho I haven't posted a lot, I read the boards every day and they have been a god send for information I just wanted to know. Jo is so wonderful and can answer ANY question! I'm so glad I found BoneSmart and all of you - Debbie

Back from the doc and he is very happy with the progress. Can finally start to put weight on leg and walk little bit without crutches or one crutch (or one crutcher as my 4 yr old says) but keep crutches close by and use when needed and for longer distances. All other restrictions lifted - looking forward to sleeping on my side. Learning to walk with new length leg after 30 yrs is pretty weird though.
Can drive - yeah - cabin fever is getting to me. I feel like driving around the block for fun!!!

Gonna head back to work on monday so that should be interesting but if I am tired I am gonna head home early if necessary.

Got new exercises from PT some are a little sore as I went through them with her but it did feel so good to give the muscles a bit of a stretch.

So all is good!

That was really cool to hear the sept club updates. Jo needs to add hers. I , unfortunately am still waiting for a new date as mine got postponed due to not having the correct working equipment at the hospital. On tuesday I go to the other surgeon who my surgeon now wants to do the surgery. He is the top thoracic spine surgeon in the country.

Glad all the hips are doing great and improving , it only gets better from here.

Just got back from my Dr. appointment...I can drive!! yay!! And I'm cleared from all restrictions and can go back to teaching this week.

Jo's doing peachy, thanks, Judy - feel like a new-born! Well, in the knee department, anyways!

That's GREAT news, Shuga!!! Just take it in STAGES once you return to work! You probably won't believe how exhausting your work routine is going to be! :thmb:

HELLO PEEPS!!!!!!

I went for my 5 wk checkup Wed (cuz the OS has the nerve to take a vacation for 2 weeks. How DARE he?? lol) Got the OK to put weight on the operated side (right). The feeling of walking down the hall Thursday morning without the D*mn walker was the best. Then I got in my car and drove Thursday afternoon for the first time. Felt like a teenager. Picked my kids up at school and took them for pizza at the new joint Slices! I never realized how happy I would be to do the "normal" mommy routine. Even walked (well waddled) into the school to check out the kids work in the hall since I had not been there in 6 weeks. The look on my babies faces when they saw me (had no idea I was coming or would drive) will stay with me for years!!
Can yall feel the joy???
I am putting the left side off till Jan cuz financially just cant take any more missed work this year. The difference in the two sides is mind blowing!! The operated side needs to have the muscles built up and kinda pulls/stretches when I walk, BUT IT DOES NOT HURT!! The left side hurts 24/7 whether I am sitting, standing, walking etc. It just amazes me how good the THR side feels and is proof that the surgery was worth doing!! So any of you people putting off your surgery thinking you are too young, or whatever...DONT!! The difference in your life is so BIG!!:thmb:
I am still sposed to use a crutch to help support the left side but I havent which makes it hurt even worse. I have so enjoyed the freedom of walking freely. I sure look funny though. The THR side needs to be stronger so I have to really concentrate on walking straight not funky...and the left side hurts so much I limp on it. So there I go weaving, limping, etc down the hall. I look absolutely DRUNK!! Guess I gotta get the crutch out and give up the freedom, darnit.
As usual, I wrote a book! So glad to hear the rest of you Sept's are doing well. Way to go Shuga, Tracie and HipOp! Judy...hate that yours got put off! Just what you wanted...more time to worry about it! Hang in there.
Erika

Great to hear you doing so well Erika!! Yay!! Doesn't it feel great to drive again?

On a side note...if everyone recalls my boss at the studio I work at gave me a hard time about my surgery. Well I let her know I have medical clearance to come back and she responded by cutting another day off my schedule!! Some people are just amazing! Oh well...I'm in the process of applying for schools to start the PT process and its nice to have some free time for once!

Im so happy for you all who are done with the surg all good things are to come you will be happy and im glad you all are doing well................)best of luck to each of you...........

Well, it was 4weeks for me on Friday and this last week has seen a pretty good improvement. I am getting around the house without a stick now and would probably be able to walk outside without one but will give it another week to be safe, I think. I am able to walk up and down the stairs properly, if a little gingerly...it feels weird with the restored length. I am getting out every day and walking at least half a mile every day. The clunking is happening less and less.

I am hardly using any pain meds at all, but had to take some today because of some pain in the scar area...that seems to be where I get the most pain...hoping this is normal. I have been up and about quite a lot today...watched the kids at rugby practice this morning and was stood for a good hour in the Yorkshire cold.

Still, sleeping ain't the best. I can sleep on my left side (non-operated) with the pillow between the legs but just don't feel ready for the right side yet. I move between the side and my back a lot. My knee hurts a bit when I straighten it after lying on the side...

Finally getting a physio follow-up next Friday and hope that they will be impressed with my progress. My only worry is that I'm taking things too fast and sometimes forget I've even had the op. Am keeping the bending to less than 90 degress and so on, but it is feeling stronger and stronger all the time. CAn't wait to be able to put my own socks on and get rid of that bloody ridiculous toilet seat!

:D
